Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

The Trump budget calls for the Coast Guard to take a 1.3 billion dollar cut. Because security, right.

Is that from a joke news site or something? Because if it's a real news story...SMH
Disgusted, but not surprisedAnd to answer your question:

Because bluntly, Madskillz, yes, there was 'pushback.' The notion that Carter had 'racebaiting or evangelism' near the level of what came later is absurd to anyone who knows the actual history.
And spare me this "we're all scared of left wing sources." There are plenty of decent ones with a liberal bent. Counterpunch is full of, bluntly, liars and fools. And Salon has maybe four writers worth a hint of a damn.
Paul Ryan, btw, is basically a guy the Beltway media insists upon treating as a Very Serious Person Dedicated To Helping The Poor, when he's none of the above. The man is a ridiculous hack whose only guide to government is a how-to on destroying it.

Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies.Reagan really should've ended his career in front of the ICC (as a defendant). note
Hell, it was an American who argued against Reagan in the ICJ.

Look with century eyes... With our backs to the arch And the wreck of our kind We will stare straight ahead For the rest of our livesI haven't seen the specific points Mad Skillz made about Carter debunked either. I think it's mostly the "Regan-lite" assertion people have contested, not that he did or didn't do the things listed in this post
(though you forgot to actually link the source of your quotes, Mad and I'd like to see it).
And if Carter did do those things first I think it's worth considering in the broader discussion of Regan.
Currently, it's looking like they will need a redo, or to completely abandon that pledge of "Repeal and Replace".
Either way, the Republicans appear to be screwed.
EDIT: Hawaii sues Trump over new Immigration Ban EO

OK, time to shut down The Onion.

Uh, shouldn't we avoid resting on laurels just yet? Who says incompetence and lying are deal breakers?
Not that the GOP don't seem to be trying to make it easy, but we can't have people resting easy, "because of course they're going to lose this time."
Fair point.
