Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Republican Leaders offer concessions to Freedom Caucus Members on Healthcare bill:
Specifically, they would keep individuals who make over $215,000 a year (and couples who make over $290,000 a year) from receiving Tax Credits for Health Care. They apparently weren't listening when Freedom Caucus members said "No New Entitlements".
Also, this new plan keeps the Obamacare taxes until 2018, so there is no way in hell this will pass the House or (especially the) Senate.

Yep. Because good has higher standards. Sometimes too high.

Also, from something I just posted
, the bill now keeps the Obamacare taxes for another year. The odds of it passing are against Ryan.
How come morons don't realize that PP doesn't use any federal funds for Abortion? No Federal Funds can be used for Abortions in the United States, thanks to Congress!
Yea- no, they can't do that. Too many Teapublicans know that any attempt to just rename Obamacare would just mean they failed. Unlike most Republicans, Teapublicans are serious about getting rid of Entitlements; not just Obamacare, all entitlements. They will attack any Republican that dares to try a move like that, whether it's Trump or Ryan or even one of their own.
Give them credit for being serious and not being sell outs, at least.

@Madskillz: Jokes are also commentary, and it fails to be funny for being something that not all of us actually know at this point. So basically the same reason as before.
@Tactical: I feel like that's going to be the slogan of both parties in 2020 at this moment.
Anyway, remember what Boehner said; it's likely they'll just change the name to Trumpcare and use conservative phrasing, but in the end he thinks they'll keep it, or at least that it's wiser than anything else they could do.
Because that's facts. This is the age of "common sense", where what's true is whatever feels like it makes sense.

Only three percent of PP's services provide abortions. PP provides services like cancer screenings and pap smears. So what are they really after by attacking PP?
I remember Ivanka saying that her father would be amazing for women. I'm still waiting for him to be amazing for me or any other women that I know.
Do not obey in advance.
