Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Republicans in Maine and Utah
have approached Trump to "undo" national parks and monuments in their states so they can exploit the areas for resources. If he goes for them, it'd be the first time a president made a move against Teddy Roosevelt's antiquities act.
Can't have some filthy dead democrat like Roosevelt get in the way of progress!
Was that a joke about Trump confusing Teddy Roosevelt (R) with F D Roosevelt (D)?, because it's a pretty good one then.

I would laugh if that investigation ends up finding a tape of Trump directly colluding with Russians. (as in: Trump personally talking with a GRU officer about doing things to compromise the US' position and benefit Russia).
I'm not even surprised.

1 2 We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be. -KVEvery time I see how much it costs for Trump's vacations, and his wife's stay in New York, I think about this stupid tweet.
I'm pretty sure with the money they're going to waste, we could buy a steak note for every man, woman, and child below the poverty line in America.
I can't be surprised at Trump taking every weekend off. Remember: he's not a politician, he's a businessman.
He thinks being President is something where he can turn in forty hours of work a week and then go enjoy his weekend.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.In fairness, the conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch is getting on Trump's case already over the repeated trips to Florida
.
Also, last week we had the two Indian men (and one bystander who tried saving them) get shot, with one killed - and now we get a shooting in Washington motivated for the same
"Get out of our country!" reason.
He thinks being President is something where he can turn in forty hours of work a week and then go enjoy his weekend.
And I have little doubts that many of President Obama's "breaks" were networking events.
Though, Trump's attitude is a perfect match for someone just out to squeeze tribute from the country to fund his lavish lifestyle and overgrown ego and then do the bare minimum in return.

Look with century eyes... With our backs to the arch And the wreck of our kind We will stare straight ahead For the rest of our livesThe real irony is, there's DEFINITELY a whole damn bunch of Trumplings that voted him just to get back at all the SJW's and POC's and wymmen and political correctness and their triggers and special snowflakes with their whining and safe spaces
....And the guy they brought to power does almost nothing but demand a snowflake treatment, get triggered at the same topics over and over, whine about it and fuck off to his safe space at the first chance he gets

That's because reactionary projection is 100% real, and every complaint about "trigger warnings" and "snowflake behavior" applies to the average Trumpist reactionary than it does to the average progressive.
“I’m not a racist, I love people, I love the people of my church and I love all of you,” Keough said.
In other news, Mexico's Paying for Something..
Mexican Foreign Minister Luis Videgaray reaffirmed concerns about the human rights of Mexicans in the US.
But migrant defence centres would not "promote illegality," he said.
Millions of Mexicans who have lived in the US for many years are suddenly facing the prospect of fighting a lengthy and costly legal battle against deportation.
The new defence centres will provide free legal assistance for Mexican citizens who feel that their rights in the US are being threatened.
Bilateral relations have reached its lowest point in decades.

I agree: This smells of Distraction to the highest order.
And unless there is an independent investigation into the supposed wire tapping, I wouldn't trust any investigation led by Mr. "I don't know if the Russians Helped Trump, even though the intelligence agencies I control say so" Sessions.
From the Russian Investigations; if there were an investigation into this supposed wire tapping, he'd be in control of it!

I can't help but think of they were trying to be distracting that they'd have an easier time going after Hillary Clinton. He's got the whole "lock her up" thing already
Pence is upset because a story by AP released his wife's private email as part of the story. Apparently the person who did the story didn't realize the email was still active

And yes, the security detail around her is also costing taxpayers money.
