Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Washington Post: Eight-Year Illegal Resident Detained Minutes after Dropping Daughter Off at School
The Rebirth of a Nation folks.
Anybody else but me notice that ICE agents in photos tend to be tubby white men with extremely short haircuts?
It's a profile to watch out for.

Well, see, that's sort of the problem: The way Immigration is now, it's almost impossible for anyone who doesn't have money and a Ph D to get into this country legally, which most Hispanics in Central and South America sadly lack due to Wars and Corruption. Most Illegal Immigrants, from all over the world and not just South of the Border, come here for work to improve the lives of their families back home. Immigration Reform must happen, sooner or later, and if Trump didn't threaten to destroy Mexico's economy, Illegal Hispanic Immigration would continue to decline (as of last year, there are more Illegal Pakistani's, Indians and Bangladeshi's coming to the US then Hispanics).
Now, this case in particular though, I don't like how it was handled, but the man did have a DUI record, and this kind of makes it more gray. I'm torn on him, personally. The only thing I will say is that ICE could have arrested this guy in a more appropriate manner, at a more appropriate time.
In other news: Sessions proves why him recusing himself is the best thing for the Trump-Russia Investigation

'Illegal' immigrants numbering north of 10 million, most of them doing the crap jobs people born here flatly refuse to do, and receive a large number of programs to help them and keep the economy from collapsing-like what happened with Georgia 3-4 years ago after they cracked down on illegals. They may not have gotten here legally, but they are still human beings and ICE is supposed to focus on the ones with actual criminal records, while programs naturalize the ones who are already solid citizens in all but name-not raiding churches and shelters and arresting restaurant workers as they drop off their kids at school.

No. He's already called it the Southern White House. He has announced his intentions to be there a lot.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.At least it's in the United States. God forbid what mess would ensue if his preferred vacation spot was not in the US...

In more than one way - if I'm not mistaken the Secret Service presence has basically prevented the businesses around Mar-a-lago from operating whenever he's in town, and the residents have to drive circuitous routes to get around the cordons.
Hmm. Maybe that's why it never caught on with previous presidents.
I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiot
It might get tabled if things don't get ironed out. Although the Trump administration isn't exactly what comes to mind for such actions.
Jared Kushner may have been lying about the meeting between Flynn and Kislyak for months
.
EDIT: The Egyptian intelligence service has hired two DC lobbying organizations to get close to Trump

ABC: Trump is pissed and let out his anger during a meeting at the White House before leaving for Mar-a-lago over Sessions recusing himself from the Russian investigations, especially after saying he had total faith in Sessions, and went and prevented Bannon and Priebus from joining him on the trip for the weekend.
