Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Jeff Sessions' was discovered to have visited a Russian Ambassador during Trump's campaign, and forgot to mention it when he testified to the Senate for his AG job. Due to this, Sessions' recused himself from the Trump-Russian Investigation. Then it was discovered that he used campaign finances to meet the Russian Ambassador even though he said he was only meeting the RA for Senatorial reasons. So now, Trump is having a twitter-tantrum, trying to paint others as Russian Assets and yelling that Obama wire-tapped him and is making him look bad.
Also, Paul Ryan lost (maybe temporarily, I don't know if they found it yet) his Health Care bill that him and other Republicans were keeping in secret from Democrats (and other Republicans).

You're right. My bad.
Trump starting to waiver on forging ties with Russia
. Wonder if a tape involving Trump and urine will be 'leaked by the Obama administration' in the near future?
@Mad Skillz, the ambassador thing is being discussed on the General Russia Thread .
Although for the free press question, I bet the results skewed differently under President Obama. The pollsters should probably consider rewording that question. Look with century eyes... With our backs to the arch And the wreck of our kind We will stare straight ahead For the rest of our lives
It's not even that he "forgot" to mention it. He denied it even without it having actually been brought up in the questioning.
The question was about how he would handle the investigation.
I'm not sure how? Are you saying that the Steele dossier is not credible?
I mean Trump is a known idiot and the Steele dossier says he made a money deal with Russians to drop the sanctions in return for shares in an oil company and money.
I believe it even detailed that the Russians were surprised they didn't have to use any blackmail to get him to do what they want. He was willing. So this all adds up.
At which point does the graphic I linked to suggest that I doubt the veracity of at least part of the Steele dossier? It's one charting a maze of Bayrock owned companies laundering Russian money, for crying out loud.
What I was disputing was that Trump genuinely believed nobody would look.
I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiotI wonder about the timing of the article but it was published with the cooperation of intelligence people and the cat is apparently out of the bag in that NK likely knows we're doing it but not necessarily how.
If there's any accuracy to this article, Jeff Sessions has been abusing his power since the mid-80's, and not just in the "too racist to be a judge" way. The article claims Sessions used his position as an attorney general in Alabama to aid Republicans in risky election fights by indicting potential Democrat opponents
March 4 Trump protests small (1000 or less) through out most of America
, especially compared to the Woman's March Protests back in late January. Some Protesters in DC are reported to have had the Russian Flags with "Trump" written in Gold on them. The largest Protest I can find is from Florida, numbering about 2000 people
.

I'm seeing a lot of social media chatter about a HR 610 going forward to make deep cuts into public education .
The Bill; repeals 1965 education act and sets framework for voucher program.
Also repeals the No Hungry Kids Act because cartoon villains are too subtle.
Quoting Asheville Citizen-Times
Title I, for schools with high populations of low-income students
Some protections for handicapped students
Money for school libraries and textbooks
Education for refugee children
Research and teacher training
Funding so low-income students can have fees for Advanced Placement tests paid for
Title IX, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex: think women’s athletic programs.
It also repeals nutrition rules that increased the availability of fruits, vegetables and whole grains in school lunches.
It would establish an education voucher program with block grants to states. Money would be available to have children attend private schools or home school. There is no mention of oversight or meeting educational standards. Vouchers do not serve children in rural areas well nor do they benefit low-income children, because the voucher seldom pays the entire amount. Transportation is usually not provided. It will benefit upper middle class and wealthy families.

Someone, at some level, put a lot of thought into this network of companies
