Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Eudo: Calling Trump out on his bad actions is not the same thing nor is it related to speculating about whether or not he has a mental health problem. It's kind of disingenuous to act as if that's what I said. The rest of that is rambly junk unrelated to the actual request for us to please stop pointless gossip about mental illness.
Again, not saying we can't call Trump out on his bad actions. None of us want to stop doing that. But we can stop speculating about how we think he's got a health problem when there's not any sure way we can know that without a specialist (Or perhaps Pence in a bid to get him out of office) weighs in on official proceedings of some sort.

At least the Bush years were arguably the golden age of video games and the best time to be a gamer, and were the last generation before all the terrible business practices (DLC, microtransactions, forced paid online, season passes, political garbage, obviously rushed games that are patched later, etc.) and the Western AAA shooter/sandbox/action industry domination came in. We don't even have very many good video games coming out anymore to play during the upcoming years!

Check out the Video Games forum. Our political situation may be shit, but we've got some good things coming down the line to console us in these dark times.
Anyway, I wonder if the racists and the tea party will revolt if Trump doesn't go through with his immigration and Healthcare platform?

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.I... ok I get that videogames are awesome but it seems kind of OFF TOPIC to bring up here? And we did, in fact, make a thread for discussing games and US politics. Let's.. let's not just bring up video games randomly in this thread when it literally had nothing to do with what's been said, ok?
Well then, don't come in this thread if that's troubling you. This is for politics, not games. You can, in fact, choose not to be in this thread if it's distressing to you at the moment.

I apologize if it was derailing. Also, Bile Fascination keeps on bringing me back to this topic. I managed to escape it for a few days, but I keep getting the urge to continue watching the shipwreck, especially since I live in California.

That's only the good future though...
I mean, the post-Trump implications are interesting. The US's political capital from President Obama's years is gone. All that invisible groundwork continuously laid and strengthened by ambassadors has probably already decayed with posts being empty all over the world. The next president ever using the term: "leader of the free world" will be in horrible taste.
Domestically, the power of the Presidency depends alot on the personalities in the office and the loyalty of the civil service, to which, the Trump years could greatly weaken the office and accidentally fulfill all those goals about cutting back an unaccountable presidency.
