Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Nah, get more extreme so he red state liberals can come out. Plus, the white rural voters, (the ones who voted for Trump anyway) tend to vote against their best interests all the time anyway, so long as the elector says something awful about minorities. The ones who weren't voted against Trump anyway and probably agree that their friends or family made bad choices so they don't need to be appealed to except in an "appeal to all Americans"..
Muslim people already do that, they denounce the hateful rhetoric that nutjobs give and have to face hatred from their fellow countryman all the time. While Trump supporters say "look just give the man who campaigned entirely on racism on hatred a chance."

Which doesn't make sense. At least with the status quo they almost always got healthcare and wouldn't die while rich people with (R) in front of their name sneak off to Canada for better hospitals.
But many rich or middle class people believed they'd be able to keep more of their money. Yet they are slowly finding out Trump is actually *GASP* bad for the economy.

It's almost like pulling out the 'the status quo enforcers are all corporate SHEEP and ONLY MY PLATFORM CAN SAVE YOU FROM THOSE PESKY BANKS/CORPORATIONS/INSURANCE COMPANIES/LAZY CENTRISTS' card is a destabilizing factor or something.
Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies. It makes sense because the white working class is slowly losing it's economic privileges, has been for a generation, and they are terrified of what the future holds. Income has been stagnant for them for over twenty years
. Manufacturing jobs are down. Suicide rates are up.
Now, a lot of this is the result of conservative economic policies, but what they have been told is that their jobs are being stolen by a combination of international trade agreements and minorities taking advantage of federal programs. Rascism and xenophobia play a part in this, but it's mostly subconscious.
Again, we cant win without at least some of these people. So the task is to figure out an approach that can connect with them.

I'm done trying to sound smart. "Clear" is the new smart.Reposting because it's very important business:
Landmark Partisan Gerrymandering Case Whitford v. Gill Heads to U.S. Supreme Court
Not sure if worried or hopeful.
EDIT: With this in mind
: YES!!!!!!, SCOTUS MIGHT JUST FINALLY KILL GERRYMANDERING!!!!!!!
“Bring Everything Crashing Down”: Bannon's Reactionary Guard and U.S. National Security
Apparently they've got a few guys believing that the US will perish in nuclear fire and devolve into warlordism.
Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkeleLet's hope that they can devise a sound argument and flip enough judges. Remember, the key issue here is to define when a district is improperly gerrymandered and when it is not.
(And if we can ask for free ponies, a super-lawyer that can argue that California's housing and environmental regulations violate the right to housing would also be welcome)
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThere is no right to housing, or food, or education in SCOTUS precedent. Technically there's no right to vote either, just that everyone shares a voting right that's granted.
Look with century eyes... With our backs to the arch And the wreck of our kind We will stare straight ahead For the rest of our livesHence the "free pony" comment. There may be something buried somewhere in the state constitution, though. Not overly keen on digging for it, seeing as it's insanely long.

He thinks that if anything important happens, it'll be on FOX News, and that if anything important needs to happen, he can just call a world leader and talk about it.

Well, as long as we're drifting into Moscow's orbit, the Russian constitution guarantees everyone a home. note . You can always copy the language.

Look with century eyes... With our backs to the arch And the wreck of our kind We will stare straight ahead For the rest of our livesMonday pro-Trump rallies a massive flop as event photos show tiny crowds

"that those who voted for him must take responsibility for the worst of his rhetoric, because they willingly gave it (via him) power of the presidency. "
by that token as group muslism who take repsonsability of what the bad in their comunity create.
but anyway this argument is flaw, one group is base on religion and the place you come, the other if you are fan of one men and is policies, in this case they are more factor rather than "Kicking minorities" most belive the propaganda about Clinton(and why not? it have been running for a long time) other were charm by is outsider status and feel the establishment were detach and so on, that dosent mean they are right but that they dont have to learn about who they choose, but is more of "racist? you a trump suporter"
