Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

So, in other news, there seems to be movement for Alec Baldwin to go in Trump's place at the Correspondence Dinner.
PLEASE LET THIS HAPPEN

New Survey coming this weekend!Car plows into group in New Orleans.
There is a lot of worry that Perez is going to "rig" it against the progressive candidate in favor of the establishment candidate again.
And if this is the direction that the Democrat Party is going to keep pushing then they're pretty much cannibalizing the future of their base.
A lot of young voters are feeling disenfranchised by both parties. They won't vote for Trump. They probably won't vote all. They'll be pushed into indifference. Or they'll join the Herbal Tea Party Movement.
Something has got to give and throwing a bone by making Ellison deputy chair is not enough.
@smokeycut: actually give Ellison input into the decision making process rather than simply keeping the position as a purely ornamental one as the Washington Post seems to think it is. We'll have to see what actually ends up happening at the DNC. That's going to be a wait and see thing really.

Or you can not do that, and reach out to the usual mainstream supporters. In which case the Bernie Bros will crow about how you're a Wall Street shill and actually more conservative than Republican Jesus.
Like I said, the Bernie Bro crowd isn't actually interested in Sanders or his policy goals. They're interested in patting themselves on the back for being so much more better than those fake-liberal mainstream Democrats and telling everyone that if only everyone listened to them, then everything would be fantastic forever. That mindset relies on not being in power, because once you have to actually govern, then reality sets in and you can't just tell everyone what a super genius you are without having to back it up with anything.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.![]()

This is why I couldn't in good faith support Sanders in the primaries. I just wasn't all that impressed by his résumé and found his "anti-establishment" talk to be blatant pandering. I also wasn't thrilled by his obstinate refusal to give up even after his chances of winning were pretty much nil. Though I would have been willing to vote for him in the general election.

Disgusted, but not surprisedSomething I want to respond to:
Capsase, no. Obama was less liberal economically than Nixon. Nixon never wanted to sign any of that legislation, but he dealt with veto-proof Democratic majorities. He didn't opt to go "Oh, right, gonna make the EPA today" without massive pressure.
On topic, can we all just accept for once, that both choices were good and we fight with what we've got?
The Democrats retain control over Delaware's state legislature in special election trouncing.
This is the sort of thing we should be working towards, not having meaningless fights over which of the two identical DNC chairmen was better.

"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."
Yeah, the state legislatures and governor houses are super-important.

Far Left took another L?
lol. Not surprised in the least.
They lack the emotional maturity and policy knowledge to run a political party.
