Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Yeah, Trump is a cheap knock-off of what Armstrong pretends to be.
Trump is the a fusion of Bush's, JFK's, Nixon's and Reagan's worst tendencies.
Trump has a 30 percent approval rating in California.
This one was from a couple weeks ago so it's likely dropped.
Texas has been getting more and more purple. They're particularly unhappy about the anti-Mexico rhetoric.
But I'm more focused on the fact that he's down to 51% in Tennessee. That's one of the Reddest states, and Trump won by a landslide there.
Which means the list of states where he's over 50% is probably pretty short.
Neither- the poll that gave Obama 53% there was taken in February 2009, and it was the highest result he ever got there. But it still puts it in perspective- at equivalent points in their Presidencies, Trump's approval in one of his best states is worse than Obama's approval in one of his worst states.

72% of Democrat Voters don't think their (Democrat) Representatives are doing enough to stop Trump
.
2018 might be a worse 'blood bath' then 2010...
That is an inherently loaded question. As the minority party, the Democrats have very limited ability to "stop Trump". Better for those voters to ask themselves why Trump was elected to begin with.

... Does that count as fraud? I think that would count as fraud.

Three words: "nuking the filibuster".
Also, I suspect that the issues with "coherent Democrat" leadership may have been averted had Sander's cult of personality's (note: separate from the man himself who at least knew when to fold) well poisoning resulted in this somehow becoming a valid platform for running for DNC chair
, much less the other ideological slapfighting.
The intelligence community is discovering more and more Steele dossier details that check out
. Not the porno quality ones, though.

You underestimate the willingness of some folks to feel superior for allegedly planting the seeds of a future revolution.
If anything it's a push poll or a "donation drive" slightly less blatant than that of a outlaw motorcycle club.

I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiotI can see an argument for forcing the math. Let Trump win his votes across party lines without Dem support. Him getting his votes though isn't the issue, Dems helping is.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranUnfortunately, the push poll as veiled donation drive isn't exclusive to Republicans. I had to block a Facebook ad from the Democratic Governors' Association that purported to be about gerrymandering, but instead wanted me to donate to them. I can't stand that from either party.

Pretty much self-explanatory..though the comments are split b/w well sanity and the type that says things like: "I believe your soul has been sold out to hom-osexuality and God is not in you. I pray that the one true God curse and break you"
And that one is sane compared to the comment accusing him of being in cahoots with Hollywood and the corporations in a homosexual conspiracy of something, I couldn't risk actually trying to understand it.
In other news, some public officials go back to town halls after being shot...others run screaming after twitter backlashes...Embattled Gwinnett commissioner walks out of meeting as protests start
Embattled Gwinnett County Commissioner Tommy Hunter left a Tuesday afternoon board meeting just as protesters were lining up to speak against him.
A spokesman for Hunter claimed the timing was coincidental, that the commissioner “had a business meeting he had to get to” — but then added that the commissioner doesn’t plan to stick around for public comment periods at future meetings, either.
Hunter has been the target of protests since The Atlanta Journal-Constitution first published screenshots of a Jan. 14 Facebook post in which he referred to civil rights leader and U.S. Rep. John Lewis as a “racist pig.” The commissioner has apologized for his “choice of words” in the post — which also referred to Democrats as “Demonrats” — but has repeatedly said he won’t step down.
An ethics complaint has been filed against Hunter and several groups have called for his resignation. Including Tuesday, protesters have had a large presence at each of the four Board of Commissioners meetings since Hunter’s social media activity was first reported.
There was an uproar in the auditorium when Nash confirmed Hunter was gone, but the protesters continued on without Hunter present. For about 90 minutes, they called him a “coward” and a “chicken” and asked for him to resign — and also set their sites on his colleagues.
“I believe in free speech,” another protester, Susan Clymer, said, “but I also believe that we have an obligation to condemn speech that is racist, bigoted, anti-Semitic or hateful.”
I'm not a trained staffer or anything, but I suspect things would've gone better if Hunter's staffer had just said "F*ck the haters. Peace out." rather than that lame excuse. Hell, I could've thought of better bulls*it to end that meeting." Look with century eyes... As I've said, Collective Consciousness fits Trump, Bannon and others to a T.
He doesn't want intellectualism, culture or anything but easily controlled pawns and a media that knows when to bow down.
