Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Well, it's always easy to be inspired by someone who you agree with politically. I admit that I felt inspired by almost anything Bernie said.
I almost want HRC to redo the presidential run. There's no one (that I know of) in US history that's ever had her qualifications for the post.
Alas, I don't think we can afford to take the chance with Trump on the ballot. note
I agree with you two actually.
Yet, I regret the waste. Doubly so, because I'm not sure it wouldn't be politically radioactive for a future President to have HRC as an advisor. So, in essence, instead of serving the country at the highest levels, decades of institutional experience and long established connections are just going fade away.
That would be a tragedy on its own before even getting to what the alternative was.
Bannon is on CNN, and probably other networks, giving a speech that amounts to saying that Trump will govern according to his campaign rhetoric. Confirming what we all feared, the GOP has no leash on him and the nutjobs are in control.
If there are more leaks to come, Bannon needs to be the primary target. Pence, Conway, and even Trump himself don't come close to how dangerous this man is.
Maybe not, HRC was almost certainly an informal mentor to a lot of up and comers in the party over the years. And she's an inspiration, particularly to young women, especially after she lost.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.
It's because they don't want Conservatism to be associated with White Nationalism and Neo-Nazism, even though that is exactly what the White Nationalists and Neo-Nazi's associate with. I think it's good that Neo and Trad. Conservatives want to distance themselves from the Alt-Right; it'd be more worrying if they wanted to keep condoning them. Labeling them as "Leftists" is just a desperate way to do so.

It's funny that they're being called extreme leftists, because this isn't even a new thing. The GOP's go-to answer for accusations of white nationalism, dog-whistling, tacitly supporting hate groups, etc. has been "No, YOU are! You're the racists! YOOOOOOUUUUUUUU are the racists! Not me! Party of Lincoln! I'm rubber, you're glue!" for years.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I just shat on a friend for calling the Guardian "fascist liberals", in reference to the fact that they've endorsed questionable assholes in their columns before. That's Commie-Nazis level oxymoron. This shit is something every group indulges in.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Accusing the alt-right of being leftists in any way just makes them sound like they don't even know what political terms mean anymore.
It's not surprising though. People like Ted Cruz love to accuse their political opponents of being the real racists, the real mysogynists, the real fascists, the real oppressors, as they proceed to trample over people's rights without any self-awareness.

I mean, c'mon. Extreme left is communism, and extreme right is fascism. Both are commonly demonized in American Politics. The alt-right are definitely not communists.
As glad as I am to see Spencer get kick to the curb with a message that reads 'the alt-right doesn't deserve a place within standard political discourse', I'd be a lot gladder about it if it wasn't also the Right suddenly being unwilling to acknowledge that their shit stinks.
They've definitely taken No True Scotsman to a totally different level, haven't they?
Arizona has passed a bill that allows the state to charge people who organize and participate in protests with ''racketeering'' charges.
It also allows them to seize the assets of people charged in protests that turn destructive. I... don't know what to say.
Twitter thread with an overview of this and other newer legislation targeting protesters.

A lifetime of parental abuse has taught me that projection is one Hell of a tool.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

I wouldn't blame her either, but I don't think she's going to. This
seems hopeful.
Don't know what the other millennials are talking about with her not being inspiring. I was just inspired by four f*cking words.
