Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

This national popular vote initiative has always been a Democrat brainchild to redress the scales imbalanced in favor of the Republicans and their stranglehold on brainwashed voting blocs in key swing states. Hence why most of the 11 States to have signed are Blue, with the only purple swing state being Wisconsin; and why Democrat strongholds like California and New York have signed.

/is thinking through the implications of having New Mexico and New Mexico alone use that system
It wouldn't have changed a single thing this time, aside from rigging the game against third parties even more. I suppose it makes New Mexico into the ultimate non-battleground state- campaigning there would be pretty pointless for both sides, no matter what the polls say.

"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."@Gliphon: it seems to be NM joining the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact
, so it basically would mean that it only kicks into effect when popular vote and EC don't match.
Milo Whateverpolus will still be around, he has a decent cult following and I'm am kinda afraid he will become even more nuts outside Breibart.
Anyway, he is the poster child of the Alt-Right along Spencer, so he ain't going nowhere anytime soon. Breibart or not he can still give speeches, harass people online and publish his drivel.
Inter arma enim silent legesWell, he can harass people online. Publishing drivel and giving speeches require people willing to grant him a platform to stand on as well as the ability to go outside without being punched for being a Nazi.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.To be perfectly fair, he's not the first one to have made that "I'm glad a grownup raped me and made me discover my gayness" point. One of The Vagina Monologues did that too, though it often gets cut.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

Yes, the old "terra nullius," to which "they weren't using the land, so we didn't take it/ taking it was no problem at all."
Look with century eyes... With our backs to the arch And the wreck of our kind We will stare straight ahead For the rest of our livesIt's only just being excised from history books that the land was empty.
