Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Lt. Gen. Herbert Raymond McMaster
named as Trump's new national security advisor.
edit- Also, Trump seems to be holding on to Bolton for some as-of-yet-unannounced "important" position.

McMaster seems like a decent sort so far. Let's see how long he lasts in the clusterTrump.

Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Flynn's replacement looks competent, doesn't seem to be very political, isn't a General Ripper out to wage an ideological war, and speaks truth to power. Great fit for the job, assuming that last feature doesn't cost him the job in short order.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects. The Atlantic has some very high praise for McMaster at least.

Breitbart Employees threaten to leave because of Yiannopoulos
.
I never imagined the Alt-Right could die (or at the very least, disperse) because of one of it's 'founders' remarks.
This is striking to me because the lack of adjective before 'man'. It's not that we need a Strong Man, or a Smart Man, or even a Good Man. Just a man.
Apparently, penis-having is that all important quality in a president. It is also, apparently, the only thing a guy from one of Trump's biggest strongholds could think of as a defence for him.
Really, I suspect that this is more curtains for Milo than for the Alt-Right. Which is still a good thing, but, y'know.

The alt-right doesn't really care about pedophilia, for a reason that is another subject, the regular right and conservatives do.
Since that announcement the term cuck and cuckservative have been popping up a lot over conservative institutions, politicians and other journalists over the it is OK to stick your dick in a 13 years old boy comments.
Inter arma enim silent legesit's ethical to say a child should starve to death because their parents are poor, but pederasty is totally beyond the pale.
both are, in fact, awful. However the republicans can't comprehend the first because that'd require The Poors™ to be people
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"I'd say they "care", in the sense that they've been rambling about pizzagate so long, so loudly and so much that making them choose between "throw him under the bus" and "pedophiles are totally OK if they're on our side" strains their doublethink. And they broke for the first, since he's also jewish and gay, so they can in the future use it to further their regressive agenda equating homosexuality or being jewish with pedophilia. I'd assume if it was Bannon or Spencer they could've gone for something like "but shillary did industrial pedophilia, so he's ok since he did less bad".
If that's confusing:
- They went on a very vicious Pedo Hunt with pizzagate.
- One of their own being a pedophile forces them to choose to justify either that person or their earlier belief.
- Yiannopoulos already was "the other", so they went with affirming their belief and may use this in the future to "justify" their prejudices against jewish people and/or LGBT+ people.
- If it had been a straight white altrighter, they may have gone for backing that altrighter and bending their beliefs to "accept" that person.

1 2 We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be. -KVWell, I think Milo only got in trouble because he's gay. Josh Duggar is a child molester, but he lasted a bit longer because he went after girls.
Rich white men have children.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub. That quote about needing a "man" in the white house also kind of smells like toxic masculinity to me. Because we all know what most people mean they refer to "a man (tm).
"Trump is a stupid boor, but he doesn't take shit from anybody!"
Even if "not taking shit" is just responding in increasingly bombastic, undignified and petty ways to any perceived slight against his person.
You know, the kind of attitude associated with an extremely spiteful and immature person who you wouldn't trust with power by any means.
Woops.

'sides, the margin in 2016 was only large enough to swing reeeeeealyy close ones.
