Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I just heard in the car through Fox News (My mother listens to it all the time, I can't help it
) that Trump, during the Press Conference, lashed out at a Jewish Reporter for asking about Synagogue burnings after she had praised and defended Trump to all the other Reporters during the Conference!
The man's attacking allies! Soon he's just going to say "All news is bad, only listen to me through twitter!" Not even Fox and Breitbart will be safe!

Problem is, Ramussen has him at 55%
, and I know Ramussen tends to scew things to the Right as hard as they can, but this is the Poll that most Republicans, Conservatives, and "True Patriots" believe.
How much shit has he actually gotten done, as opposed to signing orders saying that "it shall be done"?
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"The Muslim ban was done. And then it was undone because it was fucking shit.
But you're right in that he's actually done very little, and most of his "accomplishments" have been dismantling rather than constructive, like withdrawing from the TPP.
It's because tearing things down is easy, especially if you don't give a damn about the consequences. The ban is a good example of trying to treat a profoundly difficult, complicated, and controversial issue as something easy, and failing miserably.
If you recall he said things like: "I will repeal Obamacare, and replace it with something wonderful... I will deport all Muslims on the very first day of my term in office... In short, I will do various things very quickly."
Uh-huh... and the check is in the mail...
This Space Intentionally Left Blank. What's funny is that people keep parroting some line about "but he's keeping his promises, you guys just want stuff to complain about!" Even if that were true, those of us who never liked Trump did not like him because of the promises he was making.
THAT WAS THE ENTIRE POINT.
Trump banning Muslims, or building a wall, or removing regulations is not going to make any of us happy because that is why we were opposed to him in the first place.

Ask what your chief magistrate has done for us? Why he:
- began his tenure by canceling mortgage reductions to homeowners and that's only his first official act, following his "American Carnage" speech that only really lacked a good "blood for the blood god!"
- insulted the PM of Australia and his UN ambassador put nations at the UN "on notice," which probably got cheers from jingoists.
- Wiped out the state department and probably crippled our diplomacy and erased the better parts of it...
- Cleared a half-cocked raid that probably gave us plenty of new enemies, whom I don't expect to get over things post-Trump
- Probably doomed the Baltic States even before being elected with his comments...
- Practically cut our R&D and general science sector off from the world and itself by gagging scientists, appointing lunatics like an anti-vaxxer to vaccine safety commissions, and the Muslim ban instantly changing the US's reputation to xenophobic no-go zone.
- Hit education again by appointing De Vos
- Pushed a large segment of a major state to seriously consider secession
- Started us the path to authoritarianism by discrediting every US institution that doesn't bow to him, and shamelessly gaslighting the public—at least 50% of who believe him—with blatant lies.
- Is probably lining his pockets behind the scenes as the GOP aren't interested in his tax returns, he excluded countries where he has business ties from the muslim ban—including Saudi Arabia, set up a white house page to market Melania's products, and has no intention of putting his business interests in a blind trust.
If you are confused about his core supporters (the white male working class), remember that they think they have no other alternative than Trump to advocate for their interests. So it's him or bust. They wont abandon him until another alternative shows up (ie, not for another four years, at best). But independent voters are probably waiting to see if jobs start appearing in their neighborhoods. That disappointment will arrive in time to affect the next round of congressional elections in 2018.
I'm done trying to sound smart. "Clear" is the new smart.
Said core supporters have yet to realize that it would take a Reality Warper with the power to turn back time to give them everything they want.
Also, I'm weirded out that my spellcheck doesn't go after the word emoji.

"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."And in today's episode of "What else could go wrong for the Trump Administration", Trump's pick to replace Flynn turns down offer
: "Robert Harward, a former deputy commander of U.S. Central Command, has turned down President Trump's offer to become the next national security adviser..."
He's also a former navy Seal. In other words, eminently qualified for the post. And with a sense of professional integrity. I know who I want the next president to pick for this role.
I'm done trying to sound smart. "Clear" is the new smart.

I was in a local bar the other night, and there was this lady who kept speaking into her smartphone (I guess she had some voice-to-text app) saying things like, "Obama should be lynched!" and "I love you, Donald Trump!"
Obviously, she was drunk. The bartender asked her to leave.
