Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

What you want is [youtube:*video ID here*] (add another square bracket to the actual code)
So you do this: [youtube:S F4v L 8 RN 0 Kg]
Which returns this:

I mean, if their "Justice Democrats" PAC wasn't enough.
From the replies to the Ellison tweet... I wonder if having them co-chair is actually a good idea. Both have lots of work ahead regardless of who wins, and in any case both have pretty good ideas. Which is going to get Berners mad at them anyway.
Speaking of people running for DNC chair, Sam Ronan, everyone

Trump to hold a rally this weekend in Florida.
(BANGS HEAD ON WALL)
I would really like to avoid a situation where the "deep state" undermines the civilian government of the United States. Granted, that's preferable to a situation where Trump has to be removed by force, but these sort of things are all fun and games until you find yourself on the receiving end.

I think in this specific case, if it turns out that Trump was getting deep support from Russia the whole way through, with bribery and hacking and stuff like that involved, it would be okay. Because that would set a precedent for revealing deeply compromised candidates, not for taking out anyone the IC doesn't like.
If they start broadening it, that would be bad, but someone who is clearly compromised on a fundamental level and who is obviously flaunting the law and making illegal moves constantly, while the supposed check and balance that is congress is actively aiding and abetting those illegal moves? Fair game, I say.

Agreed. This isn't a case of the intelligence community flexing its muscles to disrupt the power structure against a candidate whose views its members dislike. It's a case of a savagely incompetent and corrupt administration being opposed by everyone in the executive bureaucracy.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Fox News Report Card on Donald Trump's first month
. To those who don't want to watch Fox News, the video is basically a series of Polls from Fox Viewers. The results?
- 52% Disapprove of the EO that banned Muslims. 37% Think the EO was a Muslim Ban. The rest think it was a Terrorist Hot Spot Block.
- 57% Think America is either less safe or at the same safety levels since the EO went up.
- 49% Think Trump could not handle a Crisis Situation (Although 50% Do).
- Most importantly, only 48% Approve of Trump so far. 47% Disapprove.
So even among Fox Viewers, Trump is a failure! That should tell everyone a lot.

"Terrorist Hot Spot Block". Sounds like a new version of Hot Topic.
As far as the "Deep State" goes, I definitely do worry about them getting a taste for it, but AFAIK the American intelligence community doing this is as unprecedented as a lot of the things Trump is doing. Although, I'd also argue that the whole "Deep State" framing, whether pro or con, gives the proceedings a sinister light, given that it is not a new thing for whistle-blowers to leak stuff.
Incidentally, as far as the original/actual Deep State in Turkey goes, unlike what Glenn Greenwald says, there's nothing really strange or bad about people in the U.S. or otherwise looking favorably toward them attempting a coup against Erdogan, who is obviously becoming increasingly authoritarian and despotic.

Not without Congress, they wouldn't. And there's some question as to whether establishing additional mandatory, legal requirements on people running for President would be Constitutional.
It is something of an open question whether any Republican administration could be so grossly incompetent and/or corrupt to pierce the information bubble surrounding Fox News viewers, and Trump is most definitely seeking to answer it.
