Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

We didn't realize it was a choice between a sane person and Caligula.
If we'd have known . . . we probably would have had another Republican run and beat Clinton.
ETA: My brother supported Kasich. He's generally of sound mind. My brother that is. If he does run in 2020 I'll have to look him up and see whether he's worth voting for.

I think that's all you can say about any of these guys ever. At this point we might as well be a one party country and I'm not talking about the people who currently run things into the ground.
Honestly, I think we need to find ways to peacefully end the GOP at all and then see the Democrats split into two parties. Because these GOP nutters need to be made irrelevant real fast.
I didn't mention the politicians outright. I was referring to the entire thing. Constituents and all. We need to find a way to break that damn party line once and for all. Where the fuck was Anonymous in all of this? I know it's not a group, just a tag, but still, you would have expected counter-viewed hackers running around tearing into the Republicans given how anti-corporate their stances have been in the past.
Russia Considers Returning Snowden to U.S. to ‘Curry Favor’ With Trump: Official
That's according to a senior U.S. official who has analyzed a series of highly sensitive intelligence reports detailing Russian deliberations and who says a Snowden handover is one of various ploys to "curry favor" with Trump. A second source in the intelligence community confirms the intelligence about the Russian conversations and notes it has been gathered since the inauguration.
Snowden's ACLU lawyer, Ben Wizner, told NBC News they are unaware of any plans that would send him back to the United States.
Congratulations Snowden, you played yourself.
New Survey coming this weekend! The rest of us sure as hell did.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Sadly those of us in this thread apparently don't represent enough of the general public. We all saw that he was a Pinochet impersonator in a bad hairpiece, but too many others did not. Or worse yet, saw it said "he's still better than the woman the press has told me to hate for thirty years." Or worst of all saw it and said "I like that he's a Pinochet impersonator".
As a sidenote, there's a conservative meme currently going around the Internet in which liberals are threatened with "helicopter rides".

Something my Lt governor has been promoting: Digital Democracy
.
This project is pushing beyond the technical challenges of providing mere access to information, instead focusing on how this new data set can be meaningfully interpreted and acted upon by individual citizens and grassroots organization to achieve effective action. Tools within the system allow a user to quickly and easily search, locate, view, clip, and share this information and opinions on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms. The video clips provide dynamic content for citizen activists, community organizers, traditional journalists as well as online media outlets, bloggers, educators, researchers, professional associations, and government watchdogs.
Right now it's only limited to the legislatures of California and New York, with Florida and Texas expected to come soon.
Not technically US politics but Israel Prime Minister may be indicted for corruption

Can't remember if this came up before, but Trump is making it easier to poison your dog
