Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

The Kurds, who are by and large moral in their conduct, good on women's rights, the main fighters against ISIS and who are actually becoming[ more and more multi-cultural (having renamed their country to simple be the North Syrian Federation).

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranDHS just announced they are no longer enforcing the immigration order, resuming normal inspections while Trump screams at the judge. [1]
No word on on those canceled visas, though.
What about the CBP? Weren't they defying court orders and simultaneously panicking at all the massive mobs wanting a piece of them while their bosses in the government were silent?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. He's not only appealing it, he's also trying to get CBP agents to ignore it. It seems that, as of now, CBP is obeying the court.
I gotta say that this is going to be a major test. We know that Donald Trump is willing to ignore the courts, and that Congress won't do anything about him doing so, so it's kind of up to the various agencies to refuse to obey Trump's orders. If they don't, then there isn't much the courts can actually do - and if that becomes apparent, say goodbye to any restraint whatsoever.

As of yesterday, Dulles Airport still appears to be non-compliant and not allowing detainees to see lawyers. The news is mostly focusing on how they detained and questioned the former PM of Norway for saying he'd once visited Iran.
Edit: The lawyer groups working Dulles have set up a website and a Twitter account: dullesjustice.org and @Dulles Justice. That looks like it's going to be the best space to watch for that situation.

@Rational Insanity: That already happened: they detained the former Prime Minister of Norway for several hours.

So apparently, Someone is paying people to support Betsy De Vos.
These people are so unbelievably sleazy.
It's on a mobile game's "do this to earn in-game premium currency" list as well.
But remember, it's only #PaidProtester if they support the Democrats.

"Yup. That tasted purple."I agree that Russia Today isn't the best source, however, the Independent is saying the same thing.

When you view your opponents as evil incarnate, and the population isn't very well-versed in critical thinking, it becomes possible to justify pretty much anything, or brush any flaws your "side" has under the rug, because no matter what they do, the other side will always be worse.
Trump could literally be followed by the Son of Satan, and he could prove it, and people would still find ways to justify voting for him because they'd find whatever democrat he's running against to be worse somehow.

The most frustrating thing about it is, it didnt have to be this way. If we had delivered on our promises to fully assist the FSA four years ago, Northern Syria could have been a democracy by now.
Water under the bridge, of course.
I'm done trying to sound smart. "Clear" is the new smart.
