Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Everyone will be asking Paul Ryan (who's 3rd in the line of presidential succession) how did he find out Pence was behind it. And a Trumpling will pull a Jack Ruby on Pence.

1 2 We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be. -KV@Trump Inauguration Tweet: ... What?
... Is... Is Trump dying or something?
EDIT: Really? It's just a historical trivia thing? And they tied Harrison's Death to John Tyler and not Harrison himself? That's stupid.
I agree. There must be something weird going on, or else they wouldn't have done this so clumsily.

Not really. For me, 'context' would be that very tweet outright saying 'Hey, this is just listing off the Presidents of the USA and their most notable traits, peace yo,', but that isn't the case. Instead, I'm just left wondering 'Why that particular bit about that President? Why just put that bit there with nothing else? And why there isn't any text from a Trump Inauguration team member himself directly explaining any of this?' It still just seems... off.

How about the fact that he was so reviled by his own Party (the Whigs) that he was the first President Kicked out of his own Party (something that has only happened twice)? Harrison's Death, the first of an Active US President, should be a part of Harrison's Trivia card, not Tyler's.
Also, Adams was the first VP to become the President.
Donald Trump's team is now demanding the names of Employees working to curb Violent Extremism in the State Department and the Homeland Security Department
. I honestly don't know the M.O. behind this one: I don't think he wants to can employees who work to keep Terrorists from attacking the United States...

One notable example is the Bundy family, who confronted federal workers in Nevada with a small militia in 2014 and then staged an armed insurrection on federal land in Oregon a year later. Rather than strongly disavowing the occupation, the Trump campaign actively sought their vote. Cliven Bundy, the family elder, endorsed Trump.
That's why.
You honestly think Trump would allow anyone to pose a threat to him? Even his own 'buddies', you think he'd allow them to pose a threat to him? Not even Hitler and Stalin thought "Yeah, I'm just gonna get rid of people who can help fight terrorists because some of those Terrorists might be my old friends".
Also, even though Trump had a Pro-Bundy Campaign Official, he was highly critical of the Bundy's and out right stated he was against their seizure of Government Property, and didn't rule out a full-scale invasion of their encampment
. If the Alt-Right or KKK or whoever started committing terrorist acts, I would hope damn well Trump wouldn't turn a blind eye to those...

...For some reason this came to mind.
