Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

We find parity on that subject, I too am a supporter of nuclear energy but as you stated there is another discussion board for that topic.
I'm certain it is smaller- the numbers tell us that the people who were just voting against HRC outnumber those who actually like Trump, for instance. Whether or not it's significantly smaller... is a question that's harder to answer objectively.
But I'd need some pretty strong evidence to convince me it's not. Perhaps I'm just an idealist at heart.

As mentioned before in this thread, the supposed emphasis HRC placed on identity politics during her campaign was actually severely exaggerated. One could argue that Trump placed a greater emphasis on white identity politics during his campaign, and that was one of the reasons he won.

Disgusted, but not surprisedNot to this degree. The fact is, Clinton had a great deal of forces against her. It's not just the Comey letter, or Wikileaks, it's the fact that the most innocuous nonsense was given utter play in the media. She got more negative coverage than Trump did and the only story was "EMAILZ"...the media let Trump dictate the narrative on her whereas they kept portraying him as just another campaign.
Clinton has flaws. Every politician does. But she was qualified, competent, capable and a devoted public servant with a decades-long career. The idea she is equivalent to Trump in flaws is absurd.
I think that something that should ideally start with this election is something that Fighteer has been warning about and dreading for a while: Full investigation of each administration (strictly within the boundaries of the rule of law) by the next administration.
Why? Because Republican administrations get away with mass corruption, while Democrats get laser focus on even the slightest impropriety. If Democrats were willing to grow spines and enforce the law against Republicans, the latter party would be broken - and conversely, Democrats can fucking handle investigation into their own affairs; by and large, Democrats run clean (and the few bad apples should be ruthlessly purged along with the many Republican bad apples).
Going full Spartan on our elected officials is a weapon that, rightly, the Democrats can wield far more effectively than the Republicans could ever dream of.
I'm thinking that I should just stop acknowledging the Republican party as a real, legitimate political party. It has warped into such an Obviously Evil facade of itself, that it needs to disband or be treated like the illegitimate party of fascist psychos it is.
So now RT is acting like the CIA is trying to pull a coup.

"Yup. That tasted purple."Well look at is this way...no one would be surprised if they lose their jobs
Formerly known as Bleddyn And I am feeling like a ghost Resident Perky GothThe best we can hope for (aside from a honest-to-God Christmas Miracle (TM),) is that enough Republicans vote against Trump that it either helps to delegitimatize his presidency, get the majority of Trump voters pissed off enough that they'll demand the EC be abolished, or both. There's not much more we can really gain from this, but hey, every little bit helps.
As for having to deal with wishful thinkers and the hopelessly hopeful, I thankfully don't have to deal with that today, as the place I work is a 50 year old gas station that's culturally bubbled from the world at large and is strictly focused on just doing their damn jobs instead of talking politics. I can just go in, make my moneys, and then go home and shut myself in for the rest of the day. No muss, no fuss.
I still don't get people think the electoral college would be gotten rid of in the event of a revolt, it's to advantages for the Republicans, it woeful just be made that electors are either done away with, their votes automatic or a serious punishment put in place for going faithless.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranTrump will be President. We have to accept this. Do not hope for a last minute miracle. It is so unlikely as to not be worth considering. It's a far better use of our time to start focusing on state and local races and get people involved.
As far as investigating and enforcing the law...there is a massive double standard in the media against Democrats.
Why is this?
No really, there is unfair failure to represent progressive news in the media.
Why is it that I only hear about private prison problems and the latest atrocity in Syria from my internet news sites? Television news is silent for weeks or months on stuff like this.
