Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I'm seriously concerned that the Democratic party who this entire election had been defending the process of democracy, immediately calls it into question the moment someone they don't like is elected.
It would seriously damage our electoral process if there are methods to take a less connected politician out of the white house now.
Apocalypse: Dirge Of Swans.
Immediately? Hillary conceded the moment it looked like Trump would win. It's mostly Trumps actions since then which alarmed everyone, especially his so called appointments, which reek of corruption and manipulation.
One thing for sure, if Obama actually finds a way out of this mess he might deserve his peace nobel price after all....

on one hand, we risk undermining our democracy by forcibly removing an obviously and shamelessly corrupt, utterly unfit, walking disaster who may or may not have been planted by a country we've had antagonistic relations for over a century from office preemptively, or we let him and his cronies take office, and deal with the fallout from THAT for the rest of our lives.
Go on and spin that chamber comrade.

"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"The electorate college could simply insist on another candidate with they had the balls. The republicans could easily remove Trump from office on the grounds that he is unfit if they have the balls. And Obama is currently still the president, so he might actually have some options I am not aware of just yet.
It might be easier, but not necessarily correct. Just look at the Iraq mess...you had on the one hand a president who kept suggesting that there are weapons and on the other hand the CIA which kept submitting reports that there aren't any, while Bush basically told the CIA "well, then give me reports which say something different". At no point did the CIA fake a report or even deliberately misinterpret one, that was all the White House doing.
I hate the America Alphabeth Soup as much as everyone else does, but I certainly don't get why the CIA is perceived as corrupt while the FBI is perceived as the good guys even though historically, it was usually the other way around, with the FBI undermining the US democracy at every turn. I blame TV.
The CIA has done a lot of evil in the name of protecting "democracy." Especially in foreign nations. Which comes with the territory of being a spy organization.
They do want to be seen as accurate at least.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."
In the last episode of The Closer before it became "The Resistance", Keith Olbermann even sarcastically congratulated the FBI on finally succeeding at pulling a fascist coup, remarking that they'd been at it for a while.
J. Edgar Hoover is laughing in Hell.

Disgusted, but not surprisedIt feels like this entire election has been operating on Rule of Drama since Trump got the nomination.

I have to wonder, if Obama did do the Veto of Trump, would he pull an Ironic Echo of our cheeto in chief and say "It's not illegal when the president does it"
