Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

One of the issues with the Military Procurement is how now weapons evolved in such manner you no longer can expect a single contractor to do everything.
No really, one for the CPU, other for the engine another one for the optics and a few others for the guns inside the same program.
Inter arma enim silent legesBah death is too easy.
What he needs is to be preached at day and night about how everything he represents is evil and everything he has done is reprehensible
But done in a condescending/friendly way to drive the shame of it all home.
Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for youI'm not surprised.
It's murder/manslaughter, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, illegal use of firearm for each person killed
Plus aggravated assault and illegal usage of firearms for each person he attempted and failed to kill.
33 is going light on him.
Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for youWhen the best thing that's happening in politics right now is a murderer being convicted of murder/aggravated assault/illegal usage of firearms...that's not really promising, is it.

they're gonna find intelligent life up there on the moon/and the canterbury tales will shoot up to the top of the best-seller list![]()
Though the surviving victims/victim's relatives might plea for leniency, either due to personal beliefs or a desire to not go through a decade of appeals.
Regarding the F-35 vs other air frames, you have to remember that the F-16 and similar platforms are nearing the end of their useful lifespans, they are close to obsolete and becoming expensive to maintain. And the F-35 lives and dies by its electronic capacities, if it does get to where its supposed to be (and is it moving in that direction) it won't matter that its an "inferior" stealth fighter aircraft/interceptor/whatever. Cause the data capacities and ability to kill before its even detected will make those a moot issue.
Is it a procurement debacle? Yes. Can you kill it without destroying a few Western/East Asian air forces and the entire aerospace industry (which brings in a lot of employment and tax revenue I might add)? No.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Don't celebrate the guilty verdict just yet, Trump could still pardon him once in office.
Personallly I'd like him to live, I want him to live and see himself proved wrong and his ideals ignored as he becomes just a footnote in the history of assholes trying to stop progress. There's a reason I like international court jails being in the Netherlands.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ Cyran@Rational Insanity: I hope you'll pardon me if I'm not entirely convinced that BVR has come a long-way enough for this not to turn like the early history of the F-4. I concede that the program is too far along to really stop however, I just hope that we will have actually learned something from the stupidity of this program and not repeat when it comes time to be the F-47 or whatever it ends up being.
@salisw: Yeah, I can't imagine Trump even at his lowest would try something like that. There would definitely be widespread riots and I doubt the rest of the Republicans would be willing to spare him impeachment after that.
I didn't expect Trump to insult prisoners of war like Mc Cain for being captured either.
At this rate, Trump may pull the "just a young man who made the wrong choice at the worst moment" defense on Roof if he feel like it.
From what I can tell about how electors are selected, I can't imagine there being many Republican objections to voting Trump. As far as I can see, the parties nominate who they want as their electors for each state and the set of electors that gets activated to vote in each state is the set chosen by the party the people in that state vote for.
By the sounds of it, many of the Republican electors are Trump supporters and were in fact nominated by the GOP precisely because of that fact. The GOP is therefore not expecting any massive damage on Monday. One or two, yes, but we already know about them. Most will support Trump.
So, can anyone tell me if what I've been reading is accurate (regarding how electors are selected)?
If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.

Welp, Dylan Roof has been found guilty on twenty two counts in the Church Massacre trial. Some good news today.
