Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I think you should find a source that isn't directly quoting The Sun.
I mean the whole Iran threatens nuclear war thing.

how about the Independant?
(it also has him saying it on video).
Audio interview with a 23 year veteran of the CIA on Trump and his ties with the US intelligence so far
. Not really a spoiler: it's bad. How bad has to be heard to be believed.
Twitter thread on the highlights of the interview
.
Ouch, this really isn't looking good. Should I be dropping out of grad school and preparing for guerilla warfare?

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.I've learned in the last month that the 25th amendment includes a provision where the President can be removed by a statement of no confidence (a bit more complicated than that, but this is the boiled-down version) by a simple majority of the cabinet, which is why Trump seems so desperate to stack it with cronies (moreso than other Presidents), he needs over half of them to be people who will never declare his unfitness to serve the office.
I'd guess that provision was a response to the period right after Nixon's indictment became inevitable, when close White House advisers were quite terrified that Nixon would do something world-endingly erratic based on his mood at the time.

That's because they know that they're riding on his coattails. All their establishment candidates that they would have preferred over Trump got soundly defeated by him. You could argue that this was for various reasons but in practice it means that their electorate chose Trumpism over the usual GOP platform.
So I just took a look at a youtube comments section, and apparently, people actually believe that Clinton only got the popular vote because California allows illegal immigrants to vote somehow.
I can't help but feel some satisfaction at the fact that they will be getting exactly the kind of leadership they've voted for. Mother of God, just what are they drinking?

As someone who voted for HRC in California, that shared delusion of theirs really annoys me.
Geez, by that logic, I could claim that Trump only won because he had cronies in swing states suppress votes, to the point of breaking voting machines in Democratic areas. Oh, wait...

Disgusted, but not surprised

If they all flip, we'd still need 16-17 more to flip.
