Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Bernie Sanders wrote that Trump's dealings with Carrier will simply result in all Corporations threatening to offshore jobs and getting benefits to keep them here
. It's a pretty decent article, I must say.
Also, I'm not too sure, but I think Trump's plans (if they are to give money and tax breaks to them only) would amount to Bribery or Graft.

A particularly pathetic breed of online wanker who thinks that they are "involuntarily celibate" and that they are owed a woman by society, or even the state.
Example
. Enjoy.

Quite honestly the deep state wanting to press charges against him, pushing him to resign is more likely than public pressure.

Involuntary celibates. Usually whining about how the popular girls in school don't want to have sex with him despite his "niceness".

I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiotThere's see-saw effect here- to get him to resign, I think, we need the masses and politicians from both parties to pressure him into leaving. The Democrats are a given, but the GOP is a thornier issue. Because if they like him, it damages his support among his base, but if they hate him, then he's pleasing his base.
So anti-establishment sentiment prevents the country from being truly unified against him.
So what it would take to get him to resign, probably, is his inner circle of nutjobs turning on him as well. He'd have to do something bad enough that even scum like Bannon can't defend him. A tall order, to say the least.
Do you think anyone in the sex industry would get either from incels or any other part of the manosphere?

Thing is Trump being president doesn't do away with Pence, Pence being president does do away with Trump.
Also there's always the nuclear button and the ability to order the use of military force, Trump could accidentally end the world, Pence would only end certain demographic groups.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranAre those demographic group worth it, then?
I suppose the LGBT should already be used to being everyone's acceptable losses

1 2 We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be. -KVActually getting Pence to be President would be a safer way of doing that. As VP, Pence sits in on Senate meetings and discussions and has some impact there but as President he has no say in the House and Senate.
So if Pence wants to pass FADA he has more legroom as VP than as President. And even if Pence wants to, overturning LGBT means overturning the Supreme Court precedent. He can't introduce a bill overnight.
And the situation where Pence becomes President has him doing a lot of legwork fixing Trump's mistakes and embezzling and restoring competent governance. That will keep him and the rest busy.
And of course Pence will not get re-elected.
x7 Yeeup. It's like when I take the bus home from the work. The route I use lasts anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour, but there just so happens to be another route I could take that would get me home in just 30-40 minutes. The only problem is, there's a 1% chance of me getting shot. I go by that bus stop every day on the way to my other job, and while it's quiet most of the time, there was that one occasion where someone was trying to shoot up somebody else right outside the bus, and it still wasn't in the most savory part of town anyways. So even though there isn't that much of a chance me getting shot, the price to pay that if that 1% comes to pass is just too high. Now imagine if, instead of getting shot at with bullets, I could potentially be shot at with nuclear missles, and you get the idea.

Yeah the thing is Pence is going to be enacting his agenda regardless of whether Trump's there or not. He's the de facto president either way. Having Trump around isn't going to keep him from trying to push his evangelical BS and also increases the chances of our economy going completely into the shitter or us getting into an unwanted war. Meanwhile with Trump gone it's harder for Pence to use his VP position as a cover as more spotlight will be shone on what he's up to. Plus he won't get reelected either.
That's stupid and evil in a very sad sort of way. What kind of resentful, power-craving, craven, creep, do you have to be to prefer rape over prostitution?

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

I really don't think Trump is going to up and quit or resign from the post. I think it more likely that he'll just decline to run for president again in four years, if he's gotten sick of it. His ego won't let him quit at this point. Hell, his ego may well cause him to run again in four years. (Running again just seems to be a thing incumbents do in this day and age anyway.) He may even get impeached at some point. But he's not going to quit of his own free will.
