Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Everybody but Trump seems to realize that.

"It is very easy to be kind; the difficulty lies in being just."I can see a movie in the future. A tense political procedural drama where Obama, in his last days in office, has to match wits with Trump, and must use his full political guile to traverse Trump's mind and either convince him off his wrongs or trick him into minimizing the damage he'll cause, as well as using his influence in last-ditch efforts to protect the people of America from the oncoming tyranny in a deadly race against the clock to save democracy.
Starring Will Smith as Barack Obama. Ray Winstone as Donald Trump. Tommy Lee Jones as Joe Biden. Anthony Hopkins as Pence.
Featuring Daniel Radcliffe as John Oliver.
Directed by Oliver Stone.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."President-Elect Donald Trump’s ’60 Minutes’ Interview: 12 Biggest Takeaways
. Apparently he criticized the Electoral College, mentioned he doesn't plan to revert Obergefell v. Hodges, but does think about appointing a "pro-life" judge.
There's an youtube stream
, but I'm not sure it's official, so I can just pull it off this post if it is, as per the forum's rules. If I'm still awake, it's 00:11 here @_@
@Captain Capsace: What about poor women who can't go to another state as easily? :<
That's one point I've seen being brought up multiple times against making abortion illegal. Upper-class women can just go to another country get an abortion if so they desire. Sometimes even middle-class women if the country is a close one. Maybe somewhere like the EU?
@Aceof Spades - please don't make assumptions of what I am or am not aware of.
I'm afraid I can't explain myself, sir. Because I am not myself, you see?Only a couple of them and they tend to get thumped petty fast if people bother to report them (that's why the calls for violence against Trump supporters have stopped).
I don't think Trump understands the idea of being so poor you can't go out of state whenever you want.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranLord have mercy. -.-
But as long as people like that are not in any real position of power...
This could metaphorically blow up in some of these peoples' faces if they have further political ambitions depending on how this all shakes out.

Do not obey in advance. One other thing to consider about the idea of saying women can go to a different state. That would mean the state they're in regards abortion as illegal. That means the state could potentially make it illegal for a women to leave the state for the express purpose of getting an abortion in another state.
After all, that's what a number of countries do. It's not just illegal to have an abortion but if you travel to a country where abortion is legal, you can be prosecuted for that upon your return home.
If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.@Silasw:
"I don't think Trump understands the idea of being so poor you can't go out of state whenever you want."
Yep. He even wants to return to Trump Tower in NYC every week while he's POTUS.
If he actually tries this, I can't imagine New Yorkers being happy about it. The one silver lining for them was that they were finally rid of Trump for at least four years.
Disgusted, but not surprisedTrump is fine with gay marriage remaining legal
. Mixed signals much?
Part of me wonders if this sort of contradiction is going to become a mainstay of the Trump administration, and might be used to help obscure what the executive branch is actually doing.
