Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Here's a quick list of things we can all do to try to preserve net neutrality.
We've all been talking about fighting back - there's no time like the present.
I'm not from America but I'm keeping up with the news since my family lives there. I'm pretty much concerned for everyone's safety in America due to Trump.

Would they still work? That's from 2015 and I'm sure fighting for Net Neutrality against Trump is wholly different aside from going to Congress.
Pretty much, yeah.

Considering the "TM + © 2009–2016 Free Press" found at the bottom of the link, I'd say they're still up, and I apologize for sounding a little off-topic with this, but can the US Congress accept letters from non-US citizens?

Trump seems to have launched his transition website, which I suppose is now a thing. Sub Reddit claims it has detailed policy positions but I'm quite skeptical, though I will have to take a look of course.
No real details, but on his immigration page-
- Build a Wall on the Southern Border
- End Catch-and-Release
- Zero Tolerance for Criminal Aliens
- Block Funding for Sanctuary Cities
- Cancel Unconstitutional Executive Orders & Enforce All Immigration Laws
- Suspend the Issuance of Visas to Any Place Where Adequate Screening Cannot Occur
- Ensure that Other Countries Take Their People Back When We Order Them Deported
- Finally Complete the Biometric Entry-Exit Visa Tracking System
- Turn Off the Jobs and Benefits Magnet
- Reform Legal immigration to Serve the Best Interests of America and its Workers

This should answer your question.

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet Unless I grew it. In that case, throw it in the trash. The healthcare thing is just the most bizarre element of the Republican platform to me. Other stuff is completely loathsome, but the obsession with restricting healthcare means that, whether or not they admit it, the Republicans are behaving like they want their constituents to die of preventable illness. Especially since the ACA is actually really popular. But, tons of the Republican base haven't made the connection between the ACA and their healthcare.

Yeah, there's a reason they're such hypocrites when it comes to abortion. "The sanctity of life is so important, you guys!" "So why did you let that 1 year old die of scarlet fever because his parents couldn't afford the hospital?" "He should have pulled himself up by his own bootstraps!"

Googled "Trump the Hedgehog" because in the Net Neutrality article there was a link to an article suggesting to Google your first name with the suffix "The Hedgehog", and...
...just look what I found:

I guess if they've never had to worry about paying for theirs, they really don't have any comprehension of the struggle other people face. I can't tell you how many times I've had everyone from random people to close family give me the "you're a social parasite" speech when when I'm employed (though slashed to part time at the moment) and do a damn better job on my taxes than they do.
edit- On healthcare, some oncologists blogs I follow have said they've heard whispers of Trump holding meetings with the god emperor of the Anti-Vax movement himself, Andrew Wakefield
. Apparently he's seeking out that fucking disgrace to advise him on healthcare.

It doesn't help that a lot of the insurance companies actually like the ACA. It's not like they're insuring way more people than they ever have before.
Yeah, I mean I can understand (while fervently disagreeing with them) the GOP's positions on immigration, foreign policy, taxation, regulation, climate change, even abortion (though not their opposition to contraception and sex-ed) but their views on Healthcare in particular make them look like Stupid Evil Card Carrying Villains who get a sadistic kick out of watching people (including their own supporters) suffer.
Right-wing parties throughout the first world generally support healthcare, some may want to privatize their programs to some extent but going the US route is seen as both political suicide and flat out poor policy.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects. No, the alt-right needs to burn. There are dissaffected Trump supporters who are decent people at heart, but the neo-Confederates, neo-Nazis, and twitter trolls need to be drummed out of society, isolated, branded and marginalized until they make a good faith effort of proving they can function in civilized society.

/pol/'s days are numbered anyway. Something has to give with 4chan, unless "angel" investors like Martin Shkreli are willing to basically donate their money to keep it afloat.
