Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

@ the statement regarding muslims being removed: I don't know why they'd feel the need to do that, to be honest. It got them this far.
EDIT: There's a protest going on outside the White House right now with people chanting "Fuck Trump".
Good on everyone involved but I see protests like this being violently repressed as time goes on.

So is there any website with a list of all the campaign promises trump made and how many he already broke?
I really want one just to rub on the faces of everyone who voted on him thinking he was the anti-globalism and anti-establishment candidate.

Any group who acts like morons ironically will eventually find itself swamped by morons who think themselves to be in good company.![]()

And by the looks of it
he is already breaking his promises and toning down the rhetoric that got him elected.
Holy shit! It is like he told exactly what his voters wanted to hear!

That along the whole system is rigged believe me

Inter arma enim silent leges@Gilphon: That's true, too. A lot of people have every right to be angry, even at the people who only voted Trump out of mistaken belief. I know if I accidentally ran into someone and hurt them, they'd have the right to be angry at me even though I didn't mean to cause them harm.
So yeah, to anyone who's angry, go ahead and process those feelings first. In fact, anyone who's sad or scared, go ahead and process those feelings first. I know I had to process my feelings about all this.

]It's like I've been saying; Trump's been telling the people what they want to hear without the intent of actually going through with it. He's a salesman, not a politician, and his best talent (and I use that term loosely,) is to sell his product to his intended target using whatever methods he can, even if it means giving them false promises he doesn't intend to keep. He might not even do the actual governing, instead dumping it on Pence and Trump's handpicked staff. Trump doesn't want to make a difference; he wants to be the President without actually being the President, and he'll tell anyone whatever he wants to get there.
"Donald Trump statement on banning Muslims from US has disappeared from his website: The president-elect no longer has the 7 December 2015 statement "
I cant wait for him to said how the WALL idea is just too expensive and just make immigration harder for Mexicans
How his charming fanbase is going to take it....well, that is the funny question

I'm guessing they're going to hold a rather long-lasting grudge over this; hopefully long enough to swing them over to the Democrats for the next election.
And that's also like what I've been saying; Trump probably isn't going to enact most of the policies he's been running off because he never actually intended to go through with them. He himself is not really a threat. What is a threat is those around him and how his presidency enables them to push their repressive far-right agendas, but it shouldn't be anything we can't recover from.

Yeah I'm pretty sure this has entirely been about his ego. I see him having very little interest in actually doing anything because being the president is hard and emotionally draining work, and he's a privileged asshole who's had everything handed to him his whole life. Claiming credit for everything while letting Pence and his goons do the dirty work is exactly what I expect.
I expect him to do a couple of things at least and those will probably be bad, probably resulting from getting pissed off at someone or something, but yes I see Pence and the rest of his cabinet being the actual policymakers employed because they're actual politicians.

Consider his personality, he is going to make embarrasing mistakes, said the wrong things and overall make an ass of himself...
AND that is going to stick this time, since Trump already lost the "outsider" effect by being in the chair, he cant play "everything is rigged" now.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"I could see Trump throwing some people under the bus. To gain power, you need a base of really upset people who want to put in someone who can change things. To stay in power, you need a base of content people.
Leviticus 19:34The only people I see being truly content is the avowed white supremacists and alt-right because this is exactly the big reason they voted. If they have to take it in the ass economically to give the minorities the middle finger, then it's worth it to them.
The ignorant or merely anxious people are not going to be content in the slightest.

And only for that moment.
