Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

a list of decisions that the Supreme Court has corrected for itself
Its quite common.
Gay marriage is easily on the chopping block.
I'm...dissapointed. That's a nice way putting it. The first election I participate in and it goes to the bigoted orange. I'm scared for my mother. I'm at least under my dad''s insurance, but my mom could lose her healthcare. Trump's entitlement reform could result in her being homeless.

I mean if the nuclear option can't be deployed in the senate then the dems can stonewall any repeal of the ACA and other obviously evil policies for at least two years.
Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?Okay, no. I know that wasn't your main point, but that is just fucked up. Being married multiple times is not a negative thing. It is not ever remotely comparable to anything else on this list. There is dozens of things Trump is worth being criticized for. Marring too many times is not one of them. Hell, you can criticize how Trump treats and cheats on his wives, but not the fact he had more than one over time.
Sorry for going off topic here, but this is something I've seem crop up multiple times in this thread and I find utter and simple bullshit. The sanctity of a single marriage is not a banner worth defending.
Oh, another thing that happened today is Kristallnacht! GREAT! FUCKIN' GREAT! THIS IS A FUCKING OMEN!
Krieger, did we not just see another failure of the two party system? Is it possible the popular vote might outstrip the electoral votes, again? Did we not see the repeal of voting rights because the "country has changed"?
Well the country has changed and I think it's time we came out of political parties altogether. Since that time will have to wait, I'd rather see the minority party negotiate and try to get something done than sit on their hands. If things go wrong, again, then try to reason with the majority based on that. If that doesn't work, campaign based on that. You know, problems are going to come up regardless, so why not give the appearance of trying to make them better, by trying to make them better?
Buldogue's lawyerI'm very certain Gay Marriage will not be overturned, at least not in the next 2 years. The 5 who voted for Obergefell are still alive and, other then Ginsburg, they're all still at younger ages. Also, no Conservative Court has overturned a ruling against a Previous Liberal Court Ruling (which is why we still have Abortions), and I don't know how serious Trump will be in nominating a Judge who's focused on getting rid of Same Sex Marriage.
Gay kids will probably face stigmatization, though. They're the ones who are going to need help and support for the next couple of years as we ride the waves of Trump.
Trump's team already posted his picks for the bench and they are all religious right nuts. Every single one would overturn gay marriage, roe v wade and anything else remotely progressive.

At least the stock markets haven't begun crashing...yet(?).

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.
