Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

It just felt like all the 'controversies' surrounding Hillary were harmless mistakes or miscommunications manufactured to be significantly bigger than they actually were to hurt her campaign, especially the E-mail thing(s), while all the legal shitstorms surrounding Trump were somehow just ignored or brushed off by all authorities.
That post was so twisty turvy I'm wondering if Indirect wasn't actively trying to confuse us about their point. The gist of it seems to be they want to get rid of religion and also get rid of people talking about religion in colleges. I wonder if they're aware that Pence is highly religious and likely to let that influence things.
Reminder: Donald Trump has said he is "a devout Christian" and believes "Christianity is persecuted in the US, moreso than Islam. It'd be asier to pass a ban on Christians than Muslims nowadawys."
"All you Fascists bound to lose."New foreign policy statement from the 1st world.
I'm not sure if there's enough resources to support Americans in significant numbers. We've already got a housing price crisis on our hands. So unless the Americans all go to rural areas/the West (not BC)/Atlantic Canada....

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects. We know who we can all blame this on. The Chicago Cubs' World Series victory.
Regarding the questions about the electoral college, what practical steps would have to be taken to actually get rid of it? Like I said before, I don't think it's on many people's radar as a problem with the process. Add to that that currently the Republicans have benefited hugely from it and I don't see it getting gone in the next two years.
Yep. The next few years are probably gonna be rough too. We knew for a while it wasn't a coincidence that all these oppressive changes were popping up, but with the US it only becomes more obvious.
Brazil is likely to follow suit in our coming elections, bar a miracle. I'm sure Trump's rise has only emboldened our own racist and fascistic right-wing and I fully expect them to come into power. In some ways they have already.

Typical diplomatic talk. No inclusion of Canada's initiative to beat the Soviet Union's "Longest Anti-Tank Ditch" record.
