Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I am not proud to admit it, but I...have had self-destructive thoughts myself. I do not believe I am a danger to myself, but still. The fact that this election has induced those thoughts in me.
You know what? I've never said this out loud before - but I am glad, so glad, to be asexual. Because it means that there is little-to-no risk of me ever having children, accidentally or not.
And I feel like right now, the worst thing I could possibly do is bring another person into this world.
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."I think everyone need this song right now:

Reading tropes such as You Know What You Did
Can I just say one thing? I'm sure others would have much stronger feelings, had expressed much stronger feelings, but I think this needs to be said.
Screw the Presidential elections. Screw the country. Screw the President.
Currently reading up My Rule Fu Is Stronger than Yours...seriously?

Last tweet they sent was before the announcement. But, I guess it's not surprising.
(2) I mean, jesus. That's not what I expected to read today.

Continue writing our story of peace. It took us 10,000 years to reach this point— this much freedom, this much equality. It was never going to be easy, and this backslide has been ongoing for ten years. We need to keep moving forward, fighting for the world we want, having children and teaching them to be better than us. Struggling is never pointless until you stop.
The key thing here is to remain defiant, unite where you can. And don't be afraid to laugh at what a farce this is, because there have been times when it was much worse, and people didn't stop mocking it then. We can't stop now. Carry on for all the people who got us this far, because while things have gotten better in recent years, we were never anywhere close to being 'done'.

Well, three things before I turn in.
1) Fuck Comey for bringing up the emails a week before the election when it amounted to literally nothing.
2) Fuck the DNC for pushing Clinton like they did in spite of an ongoing FBI investigation.
3) Sorry to burst the bubble of those taking solace in the idea of late-night comedy fodder, but Trump's expressed overt interest in "shaking up" libel laws. And unfortunately, the asshole has precedent to do so - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sedition_Act_of_1918;
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alien_and_Sedition_Acts
So that joke Trevor Noah made about John Oliver getting yanked off the set because he said something anti-Trump? That's a real fucking possibility. No idea how long it's going to take me to fall asleep after hearing this shit.
