The General US Politics Thread

Go To

Nov 2023 Mod notice:

There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.

If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.

If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.

In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

All hail President Elect Trump.

I'll take an upside down flag now.

I'll take all the upside down flags you guys have. Probably beats that Arma 3 glitch one I had lined up.

The problem with Trump and Pence dead is that someone even more odious could wind up in power instead. In other words, Ted Cruz, or someone close to Ted Cruz. Killing everyone until someone vaguely liberal isn't practical, cathartic as it may be for Tumblr posters.

I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiot

Probably the worst day in the modern era.

How...

The west just lost everything. The progressive movement just died.

I wish I could say I was surprised. But the Trumps of the world seem to be winning as of late this year.

I knew it! I just knew it!!! 2016 was such a shitty year, this had to happen on top of everything. We can just hope that the world will somehow survive the upcoming four years...and that watching Trump dither around will dampen the enthusiasm for right-wing parties in other countries.

Ted Cruz isn't very popular even with other Republicans so not him. Marco Rubio though, maybe. Now that's frightening.

Honestly, this wouldn't have happened if Clinton wasn't running.

It's that fucking democrat cruse thing! They should have gone Sanders! WHY, WHY, WHY DID THEY NOT GO SANDERS!

You know, this is probably our fault as well; we never saw Trump for as massive of a threat as he turned out to be, and thought that Clinton was basically guaranteed to win. Now look what that got us.

I wonder how long it'll be before Pence tries to force some of the work on him?

This must be the end of the world - because I find myself heartily agreeing with Swanpride. This is an abomination.

Clinton? Seriously. Don't give in. Not yet. Not so long as there's still a shred of hope.

The bodies of good people are going to pile up fast.

I'm grasping at straws here but considering the workload a President has to deal with and the idea that he can't NOT deal with presidental work whatsoever for four years...

Heck, maybe something might happen in three months.

Grasping at straws, I know.

I...I don't understand. I truly don't. Why wouldn't Hillary at least demand a recount, or try to wait for additional provisions to come into play? Why just give up when she must know as well as anybody what's at stake?

That was my last real hope. It seemed like there was a chance that a recount could actually save us.

My condolences to America. And the world.

I had been thinking of going to the US for a holiday next year but now I am thinking of going to China instead. It seems like a saner country at the moment.
