Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

It's 5:11 am my time. I don't have any work tomorrow or anything too pressing (given that I'm unemployed and not in school) which is good because I'll probably be sleeping in late and have to muster up the effort to do anything productive or enjoyable to keep my mind off this tragedy.

I should also note that the GOP can't get anything done even with their majorities because there isn't any real party unity, so that's also a silver lining. There will be moderates who will rebel against the hard right and vote with the Dems on many things, I think, even if something even is able to come up for a vote - remember that Trump is still a highly divisive figure even in the GOP itself. And if all else fails, there's always the filibuster in the senate, which is made easier by the Dems clawing back a bit more of the senate.

Right, thanks.
I'm going to bed now. Hopefully, there will be some form of good news.
Oh God! Natural light!President Trump, with a Republican majority in both the house and the senate. This is gonna be a fun four years.

You know what? That really is the only happy ending I can even conceivably imagine from this situation. All those votes that Trump got...lies and fabrications. HRC won fair and square. People figure it out and elect her, and Trump is disgraced.
But it won't happen. Victory went out the window ages ago. Survival and resistance is now the name of the game.
