Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Gonna second Garcon about getting that upside down flag shared.
Hugging a Vanillite will give you frostbite.@mad: word, toppers is the shit. I just had a Mediterranean chicken when the first results came in.
Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?Clinton's campaign chair just said it's to close to call and that people need to go home and get some sleep.
Clinton is not conceding just yet, this may go on for some time folks.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranBBC analysts are saying that several states are likely to have automatic recounts because the results are so damn close.
If it's true that a couple of hours ago, there were still people queuing to vote. That would most likely be in urban areas, including swing states. Who knows, maybe they're not even close to done counting.
Podesta just now announced that there'll be no more coming from the campaign tonight. So they're not conceding until the result is in.
I know this seems silly, but I'm not calling this quite yet. Maybe you'll still get decisive results from late-closing, urban polling stations in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur. You never know how much you cared about something until it's gone. Up to this moment, I never realized just how much I loved my homeland. I am absolutely heartbroken it's come to this.
I voted for HRC, but I'll always be wondering if I could have done more. If it would have made a difference.
Disgusted, but not surprised@Ambar Sonof Deshar Hell, Ham Rove would be good right now.
Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.Hillary - please, from the bottom of all of our hearts, fight like hell. Don't give an inch. Do whatever it takes. Just don't let him win.
Not that I think there's any real possibility of somehow invalidating his victory at this point. But...well. What else can you do but hope.
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."
It would be fitting if it turned out the GOP and/or Russians were committing election or voter rigging. Typical Trump Psychological Projection at its finest.
Then again, why bother? The voter suppression they used in swing states like NC (thanks to the end of the Voting Rights Act) was apparently all they needed to win.

Disgusted, but not surprised

The best case scenario now is that:
1) He screws things up badly enough in four years that no one will re-elect him (assuming he allows future elections...)
and
2) He doesn't screw things up so badly that they are beyond repair.
