The General US Politics Thread

Go To

Nov 2023 Mod notice:

There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.

If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.

If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.

In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

@Silas: PBS is essentially our BBC (on a smaller and more independent scale). With it this close it's better to wait till all sources agree but yeah...

Since the UK is, like, the only country in the World Trump likes and doesn't see as a threat, do you think this is a good time to finally fight back?

We need another 2004 DNC Obama moment. Something for the Democrats to really rally around. Hopefully sooner than later.

California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas should be returned to Mexico. Probably would be a better place to live than America with Trump in charge.

Screw Texas. They voted for Trump. They should stick with who they wanted and suffer for it.

Arizona and New Mexico can join us in a new Southwest Union.

The west coast could move up to canada. Considering how feels about NAFTA we might need to swipe some of your states just to stay afloat.

The one silver lining is that if the economy tanks during a Trump presidency within the first two years (and it probably will), it'll probably mean the complete destruction of the GOP majorities in the house and senate during the midterms.

The House is gerrymandered safe. It won't be until 2020 that it changes, and even that only if Democrats win state elections before that.

A Republican majority in all three branches of government. Now, from the sounds of things, some of Trump's party may hate him, but they'll still be pressured to vote for red policies.
