Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

If I'm honest it's hard for me to blame anybody for wanting to leave if they can. It's braver to stay and try to fix things yes but it's asking a LOT for someone to stay in a country where their lives and well-being might be in danger.
Well, I saw a Tumblr curse aimed at the Donald on one of my witchy blogs. While I have no energy right now, I didn't NOT approve of it.

OH MY GOD; MY PARENTS ARE GARDENIIIIINNNNGGGGG!!!!!Some interesting details:
- Trump has still not released his tax records, nor will he.
- He's said he'll have his family run his businesses, rather than detaching them from himself.
I think this means that he'll be very likely to make actual policy decisions - including Executive Orders - to benefit his own businesses in the short term.
This would not be a surprise, and at this point I don't think it would be considered a scandal.

Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.Well, I admit I'm pretty insulated- a young college-educated cisgender WASP situated in a blue corner of the landmass. Short of an actual environmental or nuclear cataclysm, I don't have more reason than normal to be worried for my personal safety.
It just sucks that this is the message we're giving. I can still empathize.
There is no beginning. There is no end. There is only... Hooty.Nasdaq, S&P halt trading as Trump closes in on White House.
Reading tropes such as You Know What You Did
Still no official word if it's all over but...

Currently reading up My Rule Fu Is Stronger than YoursOf all things, right now I'm taking solace in a story from World of Warcraft.
Several years ago, Garrosh Hellscream became Warchief of the Horde, in no small part due to his popularity with the Horde's dominant racial group, the orcs, for his promise of a return to the past days of their race's glory. Vol'jin, chieftain of the Darkspear, foresaw the destruction and terror his reign would bring not only upon the world, but upon the Horde itself. He thought of leading his people away, but instead, he resolved to remain in order to fight for the ideal of the Horde that he believed in. He fought back against the tyrant Hellscream, challenging his increasingly questionable choices over and over, until Hellscream tried to have him assassinated. Vol'jin survived, and united the rest of the Horde; the trolls, the tauren, blood elves, undead, goblins, and even some of Hellscream's fellow orcs in his vision of the Horde as a family made of many clans and creeds, united in shared strength. Hellscream was overthrown, and Vol'jin elected Warchief by unanimous vote of the other leaders.
Horde players can be bitterly divided in their opinions of which of the four Warchiefs we've had over the years was best, but for me, there is no contest. When things were their darkest, my Warchief stayed and fought for his belief in what his nation could be at its best, and I will follow his example.
...in spirit. Not in armed revolution.
Considering the FBI haven't found her guilty of any proper wrongdoing, I doubt it. Though he's fascististic enough to pull the "make political prisoners out of your enemy on trumped up charges" card.

Specifically, the lesson I'd walk away from this is that if both candidates are gunning for their first term, the status quo candidate loses. Like it or not, Clinton was the status quo candidate, trying to uphold what Obama had been trying to do (in theory). In 2008, Obama was running on a platform of change against McCain, who was the same party as Dubya Bush. And in 2000, it was Dubya Bush against Al Gore, VP of the previous president.
Pretty clear trend over the past few decades, isn't it? Every eight years, without fail.
