Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position. As much as I loathe the Bushes and Reagan, they had a plan that resembled something a country could go on with, even if they were bad policies, Trump doesn't.
At worst Trump actually tries to do the things he promises and makes things worse, setting back the US on social issues and economy growth by 8 years, hopefully doesn't start a stupid war over his damn ego and all the ignorant and racist rednecks, all the dumbfucks who bought his sensationalist crap, all the idiots who said fuck you I got mine, all the women who don't see nothing wrong with Trump attitude towards women get a taste of what they asked for when they realize not only Trump can't deliver his promises but he backtracks on them and makes things worse exactly for the people who hailed him as a hero who will make America great again.
At best Trump leaves things to Pence and his advisors, the Democrats fight like hell to bar all the regressive laws and measures they try to pass and we hope all the minorities in the US don't get caught up in the crossfire.
this is me being spiteful
Inter arma enim silent legesNo, you're right. I don't think anybody is trying to minimize the costs and the people who suffered through those times and didn't make it.
That's why it's important for the people who did survive and anyone who survives this to keep fighting. Even if we're doomed I'd rather go down being able to say I did my best rather than give in to nihilism and apathy.
