Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I still have some hope that Clinton will win. I will continue to hope, for the sake of all minorities who risk being victimized by the hate groups that clamor for Trump.
"I squirm, I struggle, ergo I am. Faced with death, I am finally, truly alive."... No. No, no, no. Fucking NO! What the hell is going on?! Someone please tell me that there's a possibility the current numbers are wrong and the official count will eventually flip it to Clinton!
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.I have this dream that I'm going to wake up in a few days and it turns out it was all just a huge mistake. All the ignored voters suddenly got their ballots counted and Trump is history.
But I don't think that's going to happen.

"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."I'd really like a source on the thing about people still trying to get to vote.
Also, Nate Silver and 538 have pointed out that this result, if it stands, is within their given margin of error (of about 3% either way).
It looks like even if Trump wins the electoral college, Clinton might end up winning the popular. I wonder if Trump will call this election a sham, as he did the 2012 one when (he thought) it looked like Romney would win the popular but lose.
Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur. For what very little it's worth my heart goes out to you dude. I really hope that against any odds you and everyone else you care about will be ok.
I don't honestly think there's any coming back from this defeat. America just basked in its own impenetrable stupidity and boundless capacity for the pettiest evil. You can't expect them to be smart or conscientious after that. The Democratic Party is finished.

"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."Whatever happens, I hope the Democrats can learn from their mistakes and try to win over some of those blue voters in the red states. Because we know they're clearly out there. Or find a way to court red state voters concerned about economic issues and try to undo the damage of white supremacy, hopefully without compromising too many of their values in the process.

I really doubt we all will make it through this, the economic damage he will do and the repeal of Obamacare are going to kill a LOT of people. And that does not even count the fact that Roe v Wade is on the chopping block.
With Trump's foreign policies things I actually like are just going to get caught up in his trade wars and likely ACTUAL wars.
NATO is done, Russia wins too

I'm proud to have made this journey with all of you. Good night and good luck.
Liberalism was never the same after Reagan. He pretty much killed any hope of a Democratic Party rooted in the New Deal or the Great Society. We're still living in that legacy.

"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."Evil is probably the best word for it. I generally skirt the line between existentialist and nihilist but I think I'm on team nihilism for the foreseeable future.
Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?![]()
God give you strength and good fortune, buddy.

Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.

I normally keep this secret but I think we've become more then just dudes and chicks on the internet. We've become brothers and sisters in despair.
