Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Remember when we lived through eight years of Bush and his neoconsanity, and we came out with eight years of Obama afterwards? We can get through this. We have another chance to make worthwhile change in four years. But we need to be strong and keep our heads up high, and not let everything get us down to do it.
Remember, Thomas Jefferson once said that if you believe a law to be unjust, you are obligated to disobey it.
I'm probably going to be going to bed soon and pray harder than I've ever prayed before that we're wrong and that tomorrow will dawn with the first female US president.

I was routing for trump, before i noticed that congress is basically Republican, My God, What Have I Done?
MAD doctorine is counterproductiveTrump is going to be worse than most other things that you can think of that happened in the last few decades for America, and I don't fault people's despair and anxiety in the slightest when their lives and the safety of themselves and their loved ones might be forfeit.
But we can't just lay down and die either. Even through a Trump presidency we have to do what we can because otherwise things will never get better. What would have happened if people didn't believe that Jim Crow laws could be repealed or that slavery was here to stay? Even if we have to constantly repeal that kind of oppression it's a battle worth fighting.
As I've said multiple times, reach out to your loved ones and let them know you are here for them.
If we have to go down it might as well be Toy Story 3 style, yes.
well I can see both parties moving back to closed nominations at least.
"But it's undemocratic!"
"it got us clinton and trump!"
-crickets-
Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote? Its more than just Trump; the Dems were caught completely off-guard.

Any group who acts like morons ironically will eventually find itself swamped by morons who think themselves to be in good company.I would like to make more references to how Captain America is so ridiculously accurate to the election, but I mostly want to lie around on the couch and moan in despair until everything stops hurting.

And remember what I said about me not leaving no matter what? I meant every word of it! I will not give up until the very end! UNTIL THE VERY END!
Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.
