Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Hillary didn't have a movement behind her like Bernie did. The usual Hillary supporters would've gone for Bernie over Trump. And Bernie would've taken Michigan.
And all the moderate Republicans who have abandoned Trump would then have fallen in behind Trump to fight the Communist. Don't give me this garbage.
Why would they? They were told constantly he couldn't win. And that by the way, Clinton's the devil because of her email. So why vote to stop him when he can't win and they'd have to sully their conscience by voting for her?

Let's not start with the whole Bernie could have won thing: he couldn't win the goddamn primaries because the people who wanted him didn't actually go and vote, and he tended to win in areas with difficult, time consuming caucus procedures. If they can't win the primary, chances are pretty damn high they can't win the general.
Okay everybody, look. I was going to save this for the event of Trump winning the election, but I think I need to say this now. America WILL survive. The world WILL survive. Will a Trump presidency do more harm than good? Perhaps. But even with Trump and the GOP in power, there are still enough checks and balances to keep the country and the world from going completely down the shitter. And I've got a feeling that some of the more extreme proposals that Trump has proclaimed will not be able to be enacted for one reason or another, even if he wants them to be. The point is, if Trump wins, then we may have rough some times ahead, but there IS a light at the end of the tunnel.
I still hope Clinton wins though.

Yeah, I start to thing this more of the "Clinto is the devil/iluminati/new world order" mix with the "Trump is just a guy against the MEN!"
Is is surprising me how much this year the world have succumb into populist-nationalist rethoric, as someone from venezuela, a country ruin for that type of thinking, is worrying a lot that US is falling into the same trap
