The General US Politics Thread

Go To

Nov 2023 Mod notice:

There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.

If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.

If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.

In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Actually, 538 reported of counties in New Hampshire that Obama won by 25 points in 2012 and that Clinton lost. That's not "predictable".

Even though I live in Massachusetts, after tonight, I don't think I'll be able to look at a white stranger without at least some suspicion that they're a Trump supporter. I've made a list of Trump majority towns in MA to avoid as much as possible.

I'd like to see turnout figures once the shitshow is over. According to local dems opinions the turnout here in my section of NC was even worse than the last. A lot of them were only begrudgingly leaning Clinton for various reasons and the FBI's stunt just before the election tipped a lot of them over the edge and into the abstaining camp.

Guys I think it may be time to face reality—the election is trending Trump. It shows no signs of slowing. Florida's going for him. The midwest is going for him.

I hope something will happen last minute. But I'm starting to doubt it.

Heck, I'm a white guy in MA. Too educated to fit into the Trump demographic though, apparently.

Over the last couple weeks I've been thinking about that South Park episode that aired the night after the 2008 election, with Mc Cain supporters hiding out in bunkers for the night because, I don't know, end of the world or something. And I thought- is this, all of this here, how strongly the other side really felt about an Obama ascendancy?

With 99% of precincts reporting, Trump leads in Florida 49.2% to Clinton's 47.7, a margin of about 136,000 votes, according to the Wall Street Journal.

It is sometimes an appropriate response to reality to go insane.
