The General US Politics Thread

Go To

Nov 2023 Mod notice:

There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.

If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.

If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.

In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

How the hell is Trump leading in Virginia and New Hampshire? I thought those were securely in Clinton's column.

I'm watching the CNN report as well. This is a very tense reaction.

If Trump wins, the U.S. will probably go to war with Mexico.

[up][up][up]Counts are hardly finished - as mentioned already, rural areas are more likely to be done counting first and they generally favor Trump.

With 10% of the vote counted, Trump is way ahead of Clinton in Virginia (54-41), which was supposed to be an easy win for her. I'm getting seriously worried now.

So, correct me if I'm wrong, but if Clinton takes Florida, Trump is going to need a serious miracle, right?

Sorry if this sounds ignorant and stupid. I just need some relief after seeing all the fuccbois in the living room of my college residence hall cheering for Trump and shouting, "FUCK HILLARY!!!"

Yeh if Trump loses Florida, New Hampshire, Ohio, Nevada or North Carolina he's basically screwed.

Florida is D-48% to R-49% at 7% of the votes counted. Though BBC states that she's leading in key swing counties.

I looked at the county-level map. The suburbs around Richmond are reporting, and most of them are going for Trump.

Suburban areas often are also Republican leaning. I am more concerned about the Senate elections, though.
