Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Rand Paul's won re-election, as has Tim Scott and Patrick Leahy. Rubio's pretty far ahead.
Oh God! Natural light! Is it possible my half-joking landslide prediction
will come true?
I see that BBC's live stream is finally up. Until now I've been switching between a couple of US news companies but all of them had ad breaks so I think I'll stick to the BBC for the rest of the night.
Incidentally, the first thing they said after I switched over was the use of blue and red in US political reporting. UK-based reporters never seem to run out of amusement at the idea that the party on the right, in any country, would be coloured red - and the left-leaning party coloured blue. (AFAIK this is, indeed, unique to the US - but I don't think it's that strange, as the colours are mostly arbitrary anyway.)
Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur. The BBC. There's about 3 reporters in every State, they're switching between them all (currently live in Washington)
