Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."There are reported problems in Philadelphia of vote suppression/intimidation...with the Republicans complaining
, saying their poll inspectors are being tossed out. Philadelphia's District Attorney's office has scheduled a press conference in 15 minutes.
“It’s voter suppression, disenfranchisement and intimidation,” De Felice said. “Everything they claimed we were going to do.”
The Department of Justice has contacted De Felice about the issue with inspectors, he said. De Felice also filed a complaint with the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office and plans to send more this afternoon. Cameron Kline, a spokesperson for the District Attorney, said the Office is aware of three incidents regarding Republican poll inspectors being turned away. With one Republican inspector per polling place, there would be about 1,600 in the city.
The DA’s office has scheduled a press conference for 2:30 p.m.
De Felice said the problems with Republican inspectors have been happening throughout the city but the biggest issues have been in West Philly. At Lamberton Elementary School in the Overbook section, he said, the Republican inspector was forced to sit outside in a hallway and wasn’t allowed back into the polling room until a GOP attorney assisted her.
Inspectors are the main workers at polling stations. They can help sign in voters and monitor the polls. In Philadelphia, there are supposed to be majority (Democratic) and minority (Republican) inspectors at each station. Given Philadelphia’s hefty Democratic majority — a 7-to-1 registration advantage — the minority inspectors can sometimes be difficult to find. Greg Paulmier, a Democratic ward leader in particularly blue Northwest Philly, said there were frequently no Republican minority inspectors in the area in the past. That was expected to change this year, with more Republicans stepping up for the job and even more appointed by court last month.
De Felice claimed the same things were happening in 2012 and that he warned the District Attorney’s Office about it. This time, De Felice said, the treatment of Republican inspectors is worse.
“They knew this was going to happen and they still ignored it,” he said. “The DA was notified and the Court of Common Pleas was notified and here we are.

Oh God! Natural light!Just got back from voting. I don't think there's any point in dancing around which Presidential candidate I voted for given my post history in this thread, so yes I voted for Hillary Clinton.
I didn't get a chance to do enough research to be comfortable voting in all the down ballot races, but the ones I did I voted pretty much exclusively for the Democratic candidates. The only exception was my State representative, which was a very technical exception since I voted for an Independent candidate who was clearly left-of-center (the Democratic Party didn't run any candidate at all in my state house district).
When I voted, while I pretty much voted straight Democrat, I did it manually, especially after the issues with voting machines here in Texas.
This was the last Friday in October I might add.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."I've seen globalists being used by both sides:
As a stand in for corporate interests and groups focused on accumulating wealth, rigging the democratic system to benefit themselves over the people, controlling the media to create a class of passive consumers, pushing globalization for profit while screwing workers worldwide and starting wars for resources. This one is mostly by the left.
And not only as the former but also pushing that but also encouraging free immigration, devaluing western values, pushing for multiculturalism agendas, ending the borders between countries (like EU or NAFTA) and cementing the status and control of a (((global elite)))note . This one is mostly used by Right wing nuttjobs complaining how multiculturalism is a codeword for white genocide.
I am not entirely sure as I usually avoid visiting /pol/ unless something is happening that makes them leak over the other boards, but I've seen globalist show up before the ((())). I'd say it pretty much replaced terms like NWO and Illuminati.

Inter arma enim silent legesIn a broader sense, globalism is kind of like the reverse of isolationism. Unfortunately in addition to the more legitimate uses Angelus Nox described, kooks of the far left will sometimes use accusations of globalism as a way of encouraging mass isolationism and protectionism as a means of preserving non-Western culture, or arguing that things like banning FGM is cultural imperialism. Which also kinda plays into the hands of rightist kooks, even if it's less motivated by active support of FGM and more spite against Westerners for trying to tell countries what to do, even when the practice they're supporting is inhumane.
I also wish to know about Philadelphia. Some said there would be a press conference?

Eva Longoria and Sir Anthony Hopkins already cast their name for Trump, Low, disapproving sigh...
I did mine early this morning, around 830, and the lines were already spilling out of my local polling place.

Clinton's.
Also, apparently Trump is Suing Nevada
because of some kind of kerfuffle at the polls.
