Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

And we're not just talking about uneducated in general, either- we're specifically talking about uneducated white people.
Pfft. I'm uneducated white people. I dropped out of high school and was living out of a motel and occasionally my car last year. I was this |-| close to actually living in a trailer park. And I still know better than to buy one whit of what Trump's selling.
These folks have no excuse.
The problem with post totals is that they lead to the formation of elitist classes. You always know who the new guy is, which makes it easier for people to be rude and dismissive to folks who haven't been around for very long. I've been on forums before where people with huge post counts were revered and other people constantly made pointless reaction posts like "...?" or "
" at every opportunity to get their post count up.
It got to the point where it became a running joke as people started acknowledging when they were posting something that didn't really deserve a post.
"
That's great. +1 post count."
Due to the mission statement of being friendly and civil, Tv Tropes is better off without the attitude that inevitably comes with any sort of poster ranking system. But that's just my opinion.
I think he's made it pretty clear that he considers that event not unlikely but impossible. I have no doubt that Trump has prepared a Call to Arms Speech rather than a Concession Speech.
On Voting Day
Me and mine will not be voting today, but that's only because we turned in our ballots early. There's a guy at my work who's a hardline Trumper and is planning on being one of the GOP's illegal poll monitors, so that's obnoxious.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Are we using price is right rules for page count? If so i'll take 6000.
Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?I'm also glad that TVT doesn't track post counts, or display them next to your avatar - because of that exact air of elitism that inevitably develops as a consequence of that. Prominently displayed post counts make it all the more intimidating for newbies who are just starting out, because everybody can see how new they are.
I mean, I'm sort of curious as to how many posts I have under my belt, but not enough for me to want a fully-implemented post counter.
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."How hilarious would it be if that was the vote that cost Trump the election?
I mean, it would be horrifying if he lost by that slim of a margin, but it would still be hilarious if his asshole son accidentally invalidating his own vote was what cost him his ascent to the Dark Throne.
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."Mods have access to your post counts and account age and that sort of information. If you want to know some of that stuff - although I don't really know why that would be all that interesting - you can PM me about it. I'll check it for you.
Don't expect a response immediately, though. I'm not sitting on my computer at all times - at least until I start following a stream of the election results.
Oh, and I'm betting we'll be a bit over 6100 pages by the time we know who's the next President.

Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur.I just got back from voting. The line at my polling station was substantial, but it was around lunch time, which is not surprising. Took about 25 minutes, no fuss. No sign of anyone other than election staff and voters, from either party.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Poll monitors (the actual, legit ones) are always there but they tend to be professional and blend in. I was surprised after voting in two Canadian elections (one federal, one provincial) to learn that they are usually at every poll location throughout the day. Its hard to tell them apart from the people running the process.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.

@Fredhot 16: We're guessing how many pages will the thread have by the end of today. I'm guessing 6110 pages, s/he guesses 6010.
