The General US Politics Thread

Go To

Nov 2023 Mod notice:

There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.

If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.

If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.

In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I'm actually not surprised his approval ratings are going up. People hated him when there was no other option but now that they see either Trump or Clinton people are thinking "Okay, he wasn't that bad..."

This is what we've been building up to for the last several months. I assume things will move extremely quickly.

I've just prayed and I have a biology exam, a art history report, and a Arabic quiz tomrrow so at least I have something to keep me busy through out the day. I've already voted, all Democrat, and I've even voted for taxes that had do with supporting a fire station somewhere in Baton Rogue so I've done my deed.

You know what I'm really scared about? You know those PS As with R.D.J and Chris Evans about voting today and that PSA against Drumpf? I'm really scared that if that piece of shit wins, he'll screw them over.

The election results should be coming in around 1 am my time so I won't have to stay up THAT late or anything to see them.

Anyone else daydreaming about Trump having a Villainous Breakdown tonight? Like, to throw out a far-fetched example, screaming at Fox News anchors about Pence rigging the election against him, and they don't take it seriously?

[up][up]That would be beautiful. Sadly, Fox usually presents a much more professional face during election day, I don't think they'll go for it.

In the event that he loses, it's be interested to see if he sticks to his guns on not conceding.

I think it depends on the magnitude of his loss. If Trump only loses because one or two states went to Clinton, we might have trouble. If Clinton gets 300+ E Vs, Pence and Ryan will at least concede for him.

Fox generally keeps a straight face during a loss, remember how they shut down Karl Rove's temper tantrum four years ago?

Mhm. I just watched a video of the Karl Rove thing. So I trust Fox not to take Trump's side if he comes unglued. Which, to me, would make it all the more satisfying if he did.

I fully expect Trump to throw a tantrum if he loses regardless of the margin because that's just how he does things. He lives in an alternate reality where everything revolves around him and where he expects everything to go his way simply because he's Donald Trump.

Well, this has been building up. With everything that happened in 2012 and Romney not even having a concession speech prepared.

That was mostly due to Romney living in an echo chamber that consisted of greatly flawed internal polling.

Oh, there's no way Trump has a concession speech ready. He probably plans to just wing it in the (what he sees as unlikely) event that he loses without it being rigged.
