Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I can get behind two of those, maybe three, but supporting the North Vietnamese was hypocrisy on a reality-bending level.
EDIT:
I thought Clinton had a pretty good chance of winning no? It's not the slam dunk we want, but it looks pretty good doesn't it?

Stand Fast, Stand Strong, Stand TogetherWeather forecast for election day (had the weather been slightly different in 1960 and 2000, the winner would have been the loser) is pretty promising. Some light showers in the Midwest, but that's about it.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Looking at my local candidates, I might have actually found a Republican who isn't crazy, the incumbant for state Senate. There's a pretty small amount of news coverage on the race though, even in the local (rural) papers. Her Democratic challenger is pretty unknown; last time she was up she ran unopposed so she's likely a shoe-in anyway, but though I see some positions I don't see anything in her record that would disqualify her in my eyes..
I wouldn't say that Trump won't get 200, he'll probably win Ohio, Iowa, Arizona, Georgia, and maybe North Carolina. He'll do decently, but his path to 270 is questionable at best.
538 now has Clinton's chances at 70%. They gave Obama ~91% in 2012.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.I'd say it depends on who they're sympathizing with. The government's one thing, but average civilians and soldiers are quite another.

Oh God! Natural light!Side question - yesterday my mom mentioned that the polling places she uses seems to always be run by members of DAR. I figure them being DAR members is because we're on the East Coast, but I wanted to know if there's any truth to the idea I now have that polling station workers tend to be elderly.

Besides the four mentioned extensively, I have printed here:

- Roque "Rocky" De La Fuente/Michael Steinberg (American Delta Party)
- Alyson Kennedy/Osborne Hart (Socialist Worker Party)
- Gloria La Riva/Eugene Puryear (Socialism and Liberation)
- Darrell Castle/Scott Bradley (Constitution Party)

Well, there's Evan Mc Mullin, the conservative Independent who's gained some ground in Utah, and I believe the Reform party candidate is a businessman who actually ran during the primaries as a Democrat. I'm not sure who else.

Oh God! Natural light! It bothers me if Hillary will win with a reduced state majority from 2012, though.
Because that will validate the belief that maximum racist pandering is a better way to the White House than pseudo-moderation.
