Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

x5 More on this: "No, John Podesta didn’t drink bodily fluids at a secret Satanist dinner."

It is sometimes an appropriate response to reality to go insane.
Why the hell should he? We're doing a wonderful job tormenting and destroying ourselves without him having to lift a fucking finger!
So, apparently Joe Miller is Alaska's Libertarian candidate for Senate this year.
For those who are just joining us, he was the surprise Republican candidate in 2010, due to a primary that was so out-of-touch with the people of Alaska that we rallied to send Lisa Murkowski back to Washington by write-in. He's an obnoxious Tea Partier of the worst sort who thinks that East Germany is a good example to follow in border control, and he opposes same-sex marriage (in contrast to the national Libertarian platform). He also supports Trump over Johnson.
This is what my ex-party has become: a haven for the guys too fascist for the Republican Party. Le sigh.

I Am Not A Lawyer, but the bit about having the arm extended over the road has got to violate any number of safety ordinances.
Along my daily commute to work, there's a guy who used to have a big plywood sign on his front lawn that said: "Stop the Traitor in the White House!" (referring to Obama.)
He took it down several months ago, but I haven't seen any Trump campaign signs replacing it on his front lawn. (I'm presuming he's a Republican, but Even Evil Has Standards, apparently...)
This Space Intentionally Left Blank.Have a guy 5 minutes down the road with a "God Bless America" sign at the end of driveway. For the last 7 years, he had tacked another sign on it with "Impeach Obama". Took it down this year, and have not seen anything Trump/Pence nearby; contrast to several sections of road near my house plastered with them. Standards, I guess. Well, I hope.

Someone in my neighborhood has a big Trump flag in their yard (yes, not a sign, a flag), which is strange, considering that I'm pretty sure that such displays aren't allowed in my neighborhood.
My mom told me that apparently one of his friends stole it as a prank, causing him to freak out about it on Facebook. His friend revealed that he had stole it, and the guy apologized for said freak-out. Don't know how extreme his reaction was - might have been something as mundane as "Holy crap, someone stole my flag!" to...well, the short of stuff we usually think of when we picture Trump supporters.
Oh God! Natural light! Not sure if somebody posted about this yet (you people post at 100 mph), but the NY Times made an Oregon Trail-style game about voting and voter suppression
. You can play as either a white man in California, a latino woman in Texas, or a black man in Wisconsin and the game is different for each one.
As a game, it's pretty shallow and the events are the same each time for the same character. And I feel it's too ham-fisted to be taken as anything other than propaganda, by which I mean it won't convince anyone who didn't already agree with its message (plus I think there would be a line even in California). Still, I thought it was interesting enough to bring up.
As for here in Provo (Utah), I've seen only a couple of Trump signs outside of campus and one of them was vandalized. I think most people here are voting for Mc Mullin, but I'm less sure about the rest of the state.
Well he's not in my face about his politics, so there's that. Plus we do a lot of jokes involving Sponge Bob and stuff.
The part of Florida I live in is pretty conservative, so I usually just try to shut up about politics. I usually fail.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?

Its size is such that anyone with normal sized hands just engulfs it.
