Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

The USA population numbers in the hundreds of millions; last I checked a few years ago, it had already gone past the 300 mil barrier, so this only forms about 10% of the total population at most.
10% of the population having a serious metabolic disease is a major health issue, especially if they acquire it through lifestyle rather than inheriting it. Consider how much that one thing adds to our annual healthcare costs, never mind the cost in lost productivity, disability payments, and so on.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"The US diabetic/total population ratio actually appears to be on par with the world average: 8.5% according to the WHO
(422 million).
Not that that's going to be much comfort for those who have it.
The damned queen and the relentless knight. It's not really surprising. Most of us don't have time to work out and all of our food — especially the cheaper stuff — is stuffed with even more "added sugar". Since sugar is friggin' addictive, making it easier for food makers to sell their stuff. I'm not even talking sweets. I mean stuff like bread and pasta sauce.

Disgusted, but not surprisedI thought of an older song that I hadn't listened to in a while but is scarily relevant.

There is no beginning. There is no end. There is only... Hooty.I don't think diabetes is one of those things you can just make go away with good eating habits.
At least some of the people I know who have diabetes had it because their pancreases were damaged by a viral infection.
So apparently, yes, you CAN catch diabetes XD
Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for youType 2 diabetes is typically a lot easier to manage if you take care of yourself. After my grandmother's diagnosis she started eating a lot better, and now she rarely has to even take insulin. Her doctors were shocked, because lifestyle changes are actually really difficult, especially when you're elderly.
A purge of the FBI would be nice.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"
Hell if I know. I imagine you could look for anyone with a copy of that Clinton Cash book and fire them on the spot. Of course, that would probably be laughably unconstitutional.
Hardly anyone has a problem with the FBI until, suddenly, they're offended personally.
Who was calling for hanging the FBI in September? There should have been calls for the neck of the CIA. Russians have tried to interfere with the election of a sovereign nation, our nation. Aren't we supposed to have a body of government that deals with that sort of thing? Why haven't we heard anything about them? We've heard the Regan era nostalgia about cheap aggression, accusations that Hillary will go to war with Russia, but the truth is, if there is nothing illegal in Hillary's emails she should just go ahead and say it. She's already given them up, and she has a staff to repeat mantras if necessary. If there is something embarrassing in her emails, she should get over it, she's a politician, embarrassing us and herself is part of the job description. And if Russians did really try to screw with our national elections, nothing not illegal, no matter how embarrassing, should really be a priority.
I mean, if there is nothing illegal in her emails, she can make the case that they never should have been handed out in the first place. Since they have, she can challenge anyone who pushes the issue to release their laptops, let the FBI investigate their servers, private or otherwise. It'd probably feel like a waist of time to the FBI, but if you dislike them you would revel in that, right? Seeing which politicians actually follow through would let us all know if they in fact haven't been wasting time with email discussions for how ever many months it's been. If they have, that could then be used to fuel political attacks to discredit opponents. But you libs want to hang the FBI? At least the so called conservatives know it can be a valuable tool.
But then, calling for an FBI shutdown is to be expected of libs, isn't it
?

Do you actually understand what falls under the respective purviews of the FBI and CIA (and perhaps the NSA), or do you just wish to get thumped again?

I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiotWe say "overhaul", and the candle-ear-wax folks hear "shutdown".
Because those are definitely the saaame thiiing.
This is exactly why COINTELPRO got Nixon fucked up.

More on the FBI
FBI examining fake documents targeting Clinton campaign: sources
The FBI and U.S. intelligence agencies are examining faked documents aimed at discrediting the Hillary Clinton campaign as part of a broader investigation into what U.S. officials believe has been an attempt by Russia to disrupt the presidential election, people with knowledge of the matter said.
U.S. Senator Tom Carper, a Democrat on the Senate Homeland Security Committee, has referred one of the documents to the FBI for investigation on the grounds that his name and stationery were forged to appear authentic, some of the sources who had knowledge of that discussion said.
In the letter identified as fake, Carper is quoted as writing to Clinton, “We will not let you lose this election,” a person who saw the document told Reuters.
The fake Carper letter, which was described to Reuters, is one of several documents presented to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Department of Justice for review in recent weeks, the sources said.

Few people here seem interested, but you may be interested to know that of those interested, there are some who genuinely want Trump to win simply because they want the USA to suffer... and stubbornly dismiss the idea that a Trump presidency will have just as much horrible consequences upon us (if not even worse) as it would on the very people they want to suffer under his heel.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.
