Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Pheonix Wright would probably reject it because he's had to defend people like Trump (Paul A'tishon)
Watch SymphogearWhat if Trump just defends himself? I mean, he's done it before, hasn't he?
Oh never mind, the possibility was already brought up :V

Those sell-by-dates won't stop me because I can't read!Yeah that’s the current situation, we will see how long it lasts. [1]
Officials denounce the spreading of KKK flyers in Mt. Sterling
.
The Kentucky town had flyers in neighborhoods telling people to call the KKK to keep them “safe” and “protect” them in the night from crime and drug dealers.

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.I've watched the Legal Eagle video
on Trump's indictment.
Trump apparently used one of his lawyers as pawn to lie to the FBI... Needless to say, making an enemy of your own lawyer is an even worse mistake than representing yourself.
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."Well, someone is making the best of the gathering of Trump supporters. From the Washington Post:
"Abortion rights activists gather petition signatures from Trump supporters"
Basically, there are petitioners attending the courthouse, dressed in Trump gear, asking for his supporters to sign a referendum on abortion rights, while framing it as keeping government out of health care.
After Patti Morelli signed, she said that one of the men asked her to sign the petition to "keep Florida free." When a reporter told Morelli that the petition dealt with access to abortion up until the moment of viability, she said she was fine with that.
"I’m a Republican, but I am pro-choice," Morelli said. "I don’t want national health care in this country."
But Morelli added that she supports the bill signed into law by Florida Gov. Ron De Santis (R) to ban the procedure after the sixth week of pregnancy.

The Onion would kill for satire of this quality.
Republican primary polling as of today.

DeSantis - 21.5%
Pence - 5.5%
Haley - 4.2%
Ramaswamy - 2.9%

"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."The marshals are expected to take electronic copies of his fingerprints at some point during today’s proceedings. They are not expected to take a mugshot of Trump given his recognizability.
What else is expected during the proceedings: Trump will enter a plea and there will be a discussion of the conditions of his pretrial release. It's also possible that potential restrictions are brought up about Trump’s conduct as the case moves forward.
Tuesday’s proceedings will be overseen by a magistrate judge, expected to be Jonathan Goodman, who is the magistrate on duty in Miami this week.

EDIT: So from my understanding, "under arrest" is pretty much just in a purely technical sense, so if anybody was hoping for handcuffs etc, nope.

We learn from history that we do not learn from history@Beary Scary I would imagine so, especially if he's found guilty. It is effectively impossible to campaign from prison.
Also the trial itself will probably be distracting him from preparing for it and such.
Leviticus 19:34

If Trump can't find a lawyer, would the state assign a public defendant to him?
