Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Did anyone else catch Biden's Thanksgiving speech yesterday? I had forgotten what a true leader sounds like.
Even better, contrast parts of that speech with Trump on speakerphone with Giuliani and co. in PA, who was once again complaining about a "rigged" election and that he won by a lot.
The difference is striking. One cares about America and bringing people together. One cares only about himself and dividing people.

I feel that it should be noted that, heartless and corrupt as it was, the confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett is not, in and of itself, a crime. Like it or not, it was within Trump's and the Senate's authority to do what they did. It was not a good thing, but neither was it a crime to be punished. Not in the "this is against the law" sense, in any case.
Let's not conflate "crime" with "thing I personally dislike".

I don't really care that it wasn't technically a crime. If the Republicans wanted to stack the court so it would be 6-3 Republicans-Democrats, the Dems should counter that by adding at least 5 extremely-liberal judges. And possibly bypass Senate votes to get rid of Alito and Karen. They are an embarrassment to this court.
Just a reminder that Maga-people cheered when RBG died. Let the Dems make them cry when they start using the GOP's playbook of unfetteredness against them.

"Wow, no Mega Togekiss in Legends Z-A. Or any non-Froslass new Sinnoh Mega Evolutions. Round of applause, everybody." - Dawn@Clemont, what you are asking for is illegal. It's not court packing, its straight up ignoring the law. Turning into a Banana Republic is not a good move, no matter how biased the SC is.

I'm sorry. I just worry that because of Karen on the court that this pandemic will only get worse. If the Dems don't do anything to correct the court, a lot of things will get worse for this country.
Also Thomas and Alito are 72 and 70 years respectively. I don't think they have much years left in them anyway. If they pass on, Dems can rush a confirmation of a new judge like Obama the same way the GOP did with Karen.

We should be preventing Dred Scott decisions in the first place, not letting them happen and then letting the court face backlash.
If a Dred Scott decision happens, it would take years to reverse it. We cannot afford such things to happen, which is why the Dems should do whatever they can to restructure the SC and all the lower courts that McConnell shat on, no matter how loud the GOP cries foul.

Let them party. If they succumb to their own stupidity, that's one less GOP voter.
I think liberals and other people with actual common sense would be smart enough to stay very far away from these type of gatherings.

Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.Edit: Removed doomsaying

This is why the Democrats need to punish the Republicans for confirming Amy Covfefe Barf. We cannot let them get away with their crimes.
If we do not win those two Senate seats, Biden could still appoint acting Justices, right?
