Absolutely nothing.

Mind you, I wouldn't be surprised if Russians in Syria start mysteriously dying or someone actually gets some decent hardware to the Ukrainians—even if they have to work around the President.

I think Trump is going to dramatically lose support among the military — those who don't already hate him.

Just to briefly touch on the issue, the partisan divide in the US is almost exclusively at the feet of the GOP, exemplified by this political cartoon, but also a result of their rhetoric becoming increasingly partisan, having entire networks and radio channels devoted to partisanship (e.g. Fox News and Rush Limbaugh, who once referred to Chelsea Clinton as the White House dog when she was a Tween), and thereby getting caught in a negative feedback loop in which only the most partisan Republicans could hope to get through the Primaries in some States due to how radicalized their base has become, and thus became the one the party threw their weight behind rather than cut their losses - see Roy Moore, who they tried to cut loose, but eventually capitulated to and gave tepid support.

[down]

Most accurately, they're unwilling to do anything in the short-term in order to ensure their long-term viability as a party - which is paying short-term dividends in the form of lifelong court appointments that Mitch sat on during Obama's tenure, but will absolutely bite them on the ass in the long-term.

They've basically become Frankenstein's monster, and are unable to do anything to stop it. Or rather, are UNWILLING to do anything.

A friend of mine said that the GOP hasn't actually gotten more radical in living memory, it's just that the Democrats have started actually caring about black people.

The Mississippi Legislature has voted to replace their Confederate emblem flag. A new flag design without the Confederate symbol with be decided on next.

Nevertheless, you must persist.

Just wish they didn't include the stipulation of having "In God, We Trust" to be included in the flag, but I'll take the removal of the Confederate symbol for sure.

Well.... "In God We Trust" in 2-point font? Or in blue text on a blue background?

Jun 28th 2020 at 5:26:18 PM

"In God, We Trust" isn't that big a deal, that I can see outside of "separation of church and state" issues. But, at the same time, I personally don't have any strong feelings about religion so I could well be missing something.

And its role as the national moto doesn't make it any less of a violation of the separation of church or state, it's not the worst thing and the change is a net-positive but that still sucks that they would impose their religiosity onto everyone else.

Sorry for the break but now I think of that :

The GOP now is for me completely over. Never could I ever defend the party which has allowed Trump and his mafia to arise ...

The Democratic Party has started a transmutation leftward and even with my support for this year to atomise the cult I cannot honestly tell anyone that we are on the same line but of course that was very much fair war, as we say here ...

The Libertarians are from what I can see a bunch of weirdos destined to lose ...

The Greens are ... Well ... The Greens so there could be that ...

Where can a US citizen who think like me now be ?

Well it depends on what you call social because for example stuffs like bathroom laws does not drive me actually mad and my attachment to real separation of church and state even stands much further as I am for total la´city but I am far more anxious on the other hand about topics of national security.

There are some endeavours which sound nice but they are more like think tanks rather than a full actual party so for me there are no real ways outside for now.

Jun 28th 2020 at 7:18:28 PM

Nuup, I mean this in the kindest possible way, but if we're lucky, pretty soon there will be no place for people who support bathroom bills against trans people in the Democratic Party.

That's one of the biggest causes of the polarization here. The Democrat record isn't great on queer rights, but the GOP treat us as actively subhuman (along with similar treatment for minorities and women). Hopefully, more and more we're seeing social conservatism recognized as denial of human dignity.

Charles Booker's lead over Amy McGrath continues to grow. I think he's going to be the winner. Already, people are saying that this means Mitch will win because Charles is further to the left and "unelectable."

Which, of course, ignores that Charles is ALREADY an elected Kentucky official.

[up] It also downplays just how much Mitch Mc Connell is hated, both in Kentucky and outside of it. The man might be the 2nd most hated man in America, just after Trump. I'm pretty sure Kentucky will take anybody else over Mc Connell.
