Dumbster Fire. SAD.

Edit: This pagetopper is said on behalf of Trump calling Omar the leader of the Democratic party.

The insult could have had a bit more sting to it, while remaining blatantly false, if he had said AOC.

As for gratefulness, narcissists love to throw that accusation around.

That's a tautology, also yeah. It sucks that Trump has emboldened such things.

[up][up]If you want to be pedantic, it's probably more a redundancy. That said, I wish I had some way to reach out to let people know that hate is not the answer. But I live in Indiana, and not near Indianapolis, and besides, a passionate plea probably won't be interpreted as any different than hate to the people who only know hate and are able to drown out my voice.

The worse demons in the Republican Party know better than to run for President when a Congressional majority wields so much more power and never has to worry about term limits. And a judge is a lifetime appointment! Frankly, being President is shit-work.

90% of the President's job is to be a figurehead. He acts as the face of the nation. Trump likes the job because he loves the attention more than he loves actually doing things of consequence that will avoid being overturned four years later. Other Republicans are content to let him get away with the terrible shit he's doing in the short-term because he's also serving their long-term legislative agenda at the same time. Particularly getting McConnell's judges their nominations so he can rush them through confirmation.

If Trump gets taken down by a primary challenger, McConnell will still get his agenda through. He'd need to lose majority control of the Senate to really block his stuff. But we won't have to put up with the insanely awful shit that Congressional Republicans keep whistling innocently and looking the other way on.

It'd be bad, but bad is still better than worse. And better is good.

So, yeah. I'm still voting Democrat, I'd need a lot of convincing to give a Republican candidate the time of day. But I would sleep so much more soundly if 2020 could be Democrat vs. Generic Republican instead of Democrat vs. Trump.

[up][up] Steve King? David Duke? Both have run for office as Republicans before (and King is still in office). They would have some similarities with Trump, while being even more blatant about the white supremacy.

Never ask if someone could be worse. The answer, now and always, is yes.

[up] Yeah, I'm voting Democrat unless something ridiculous happens. Any of the current field would be better than what we've got now.

A conventional Republican just means that the same corrosive policy is given a respectable mask. There's not a huge distance between an average Republican politician and Trump — he's just unpracticed in euphemism. We'e been over this before.

Honestly, at this point, I think a conventional Republican would be worse. Trump's sheer incompetence and cruelty produce a lot of creative destruction that make Democratic advances possible. Would we be able to openly talk about Medicare for All if a mild-mannered John Kasich was gutting labor, restricting abortion access, overturning Obamacare, cutting taxes to the wealthy, undermining science, etc. with a respectable air?

Mitch is more powerful and damaging as a senator, as in the institutional breakdown of our republic, whenever it's completed, will be traced by future historians to his actions. As President, he's limited to an ultimately finite period of high-intensity garbage. As senator, it's a losing battle waiting until he dies.

Weirdly, the big difference is David Duke has nothing against Muslims (racist being inconsistent? Surely you jest) and hates Israel. Otherwise, I expect he'd do more or less like Trump.

It's just I'd argue David would be better at framing himself because that was his entire handling of the Klan and why so many branches broke away from it under him.

(It's a weird thing you learn in my area like Klan identity politics but Duke was basically abandoned by large numbers for sounding too much like a Republican versus outright outlaw murderer—which most people who joined the Klan joined to be)
